Growing up, my family and I would travel to Destin, Florida, every year in either June or July. Our tradition every time was to eat lunch at The Back Porch when we arrived while waiting to check into our condo which most likely was Sterling Shores (My favorite place to stay at in Destin). Well, this all changed a few years ago and here's why.
Have you ever driven with the windows down on Highway 98 and came across a right turn leaning you towards 30A? Well, let me tell you something, we did. It's right before you get to Panama City driving through the little towns of Grayton, Seaside, Seagrove, Watercolor, Alyse Beach, Seacrest, Rosemary and many more. These little towns by the sea stole our heart. It's not the usual beach trip, but for us it has become a tradition.
Let me tell you how it is different.
We ride our bikes everywhere we go, whether its to the new Donut Hole on 98 to get a white or chocolate angel donut or a sunset bike ride through Alyse Beach to The Hub. We have fallen in love with this lifestyle. It is so laid back that If you want some ice cream or candy, just ride your bike to the Sweet Peddler in Seacrest or to the famous Sugar Shak in Rosemary.
Those of you who stay on 30A know that we do not "sleep in." So much action goes on in the morning with all the runners, bikers, early morning coffee runs, you meet people from all over. We love the fresh farmers market in Rosemary to the late night music in Seacrest. This place has become our home away from home.
Our favorite places to eat on 30A
Great Southern- Seaside Square
Red Bar- Grayton Beach
Cowgirl Kitchen- Rosemary Beach
The Sugar Shak- Rosemary Beach
Bud & Alley's - Seaside
Pizza by the Sea- Seacrest Beach
The Hub
I could list many more but these are just some of our favorites. I have loved spending vacation on 30A and I could never go back to the old ways. If you want a fun family but relaxing vacation I suggest staying on the lovely strip of 30A. I promise nothing is better than this. It's a place that I would consider living at one day. I hope you all get the chance to explore this beautiful part of Florida and fall in love with it just like I have.
