College is supposed to be the best four years of your life, but how is it supposed to be fun when you have this underlying fear that you do not know what your future is going to be. While I have narrowed down what my major is going to be, which for some people that alone is a big step, I have absolutely no idea what my plans for after college. I have so many people in my head telling me what would be the best for me, and by doing so it is giving me even more anxiety about the future.
I know that everyone means the best, I just do not know what the next step is best for me. It is no secret that just because you get a college degree does not guarantee you a job. Kids spend hours upon hours working as hard as they can to get good grades in college, why is it now you have the added pressure of everything else on top of you.
For some college students, graduate school is the next step, but once you decide that you want to go to graduate school that is only the beginning. You then have dedicated plenty of time studying for the GRE, building your resume, doing anything in your power to make you stand out, and spend a whole lot of money to try and get into a graduate program that there is a good chance you won't even get in. Some college students, going straight into the workforce is the best plan for them. While that is great, you then have to struggle to find a job which is not necessarily going to be a job that you want.
If you feel anxiety about what the future holds for you I get everything you are feeling. College students are in an impossible situation that you cannot seem to win whichever you choose. We are put in this box filled with pressure about having all the answers to the future.
