Who Knew Power Was Created?

Who Knew Power Was Created?

I have always heard that we have the power to change our thoughts. However, my interest is in the process that creates new energies of experience. Quickly I found out that questions that pertain to the how are frustrating. They have the power to strip away reason and replace obscurity along with uncertainty about the end. So when this happens, we can either interrogate it or live in vagueness.

I went to Maryland last year, and I met my aunt's father who is a spiritual healer in India. I had many discussions about what he does. His energy was galvanizing.

He told me, “We are all born with three powers: The Power of thought, The Power of Speech and The Power of Action."

His calmness was inspiring as much as it was frustrating, and I did not know what to do with these mixed responses. How could he understand the world so well? How does he just know how to pick and filter his thoughts? So I asked him, “Sometimes I cannot control the thoughts I have. How do I tell my mind to not think for someone else? How do I cease negativity, and the life you so effortlessly live?" The smile on his face spoke a new, unfamiliar language. He knew exactly what I meant, as if his story was imprinted inside of my questions, or as if he walked through this path of doubt and now needs to convince me that I could transcend it as well.

He confidently asserted, “Open the window of your mind."

Essentially, allow negativity to enter. The brain controls the human experience, and it will try to hinder success, so allow negativity to enter anyways. Open the window of your mind, let it come in, and don't pay attention to it. You cannot stop its entrance, but you can stop it from hurting you. And, before you know it, as an unwelcome guest it will leave, because you took away the only thing needed for complete existence: power.

It was probably not the most radical statement in the world, but still robust in essence. It made sense. The inside that I am supposed to accept is my thoughts, my mind and my consciousness. I have the power to change every event in my life regardless of any predetermined factors. Self-image is created through the mind and will only change through the same medium. The 'I' that can change is the thoughts themselves and in turn will alter the speech and actions. This cause and effect process was as simple as it was necessary. Once you understand this, you really feel alive. So content because you finally figured out the answer to your distress and thus, refuse to partake in any action that gets you any farther away from it.

I have been reflecting on this idea lately, and remembered how quickly I forgot his message. Sometimes, we have to remind ourselves of our own power.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
