Jesus Christ Is My Best Friend

Jesus Christ Is My Best Friend
Matthew Treter

Christian religions sometimes have fundamentally differing views on the role of Jesus Christ. I want to share with you who Jesus Christ is to me, for I feel I know Him as a friend and also as a Lord. I know of the goodness of Jesus for I have felt and experienced it in my own life, more times than I can count. This is a regular experience, a continuous outpouring of his unending mercy. This mercy is not on account of any deserving on my part, except that I keep trying and am willing to trust in Him and receive His love daily.

Literally, Jesus Christ is the Son of God, born by miraculous power to the womb of Mary, sent by God our Heavenly Father to save us from sin and death. When I say sin, by that I mean those choices which are not in harmony with God's commandments. God's commandments are founded in the principle of love and are designed to help us love one another. God, however, is filled with love and through His son we can be filled with His love, a perfect and infinite love.

Jesus Christ was foreordained from the foundations of the world, He is the Jehovah of the Old Testament of the Bible who spoke to Moses and caused the bush to appear as if it burned, and He is the Creator of the World. He lived a sinless life of wisdom, every deed calculated to bless each and every one of us, for we are Heavenly Father's spirit children, within these mortal bodies only a short time, to learn and grow and become more like God.

There is a law of order and justice that governs the universe, for without it, all would be chaos. The Savior made it possible for mercy to be extended. During His death on the cross and in the garden of Gethsemane, Christ took on himself all of our sin, standing in our place to meet the demands of justice for us. If we choose to come unto Christ, in prayer, He can, therefore, heal us of all our sin. Mercy can be extended and healing can take place. His everlasting love can then fill our hearts and we can know and taste it for ourselves. Christ also took upon himself all our pains and struggles so that we could receive His love in our afflictions to comfort and strengthen us. Then, by living the laws of God, we can partake in the blessings of living an afterlife like they do, full of joy. We can also experience joy and peace by feeling God's perfect love and extending it to others.

Jesus Christ is my best friend, for I can lean on Him every day and He is always there for me. Through the Holy Spirit, I can speak to God the Father and Jesus Christ even as one person speaks to another. I know Jesus. He is my refuge in the storms of life. He is my guide. He is full of gentle power and endlessly long-suffering in His love. When I for just a short moment am willing to trust and love Him completely, He forgives any sin no matter how great. I can look back and wonder at what He can forgive and how much He can love and how much patience He has. No one else can meet my needs the way He does. He tells me just what I need to hear in my heart and mind. He loves me unconditionally, He encourages me in every struggle, and He does everything He can to bring me back on track when I fall, no matter what it takes. I can think of no one I value more than Jesus Christ.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
