In the Season 6 "The Walking Dead" finale, we saw a lot out of the comics, including a certain former car salesman who wields a baseball bat. At the end of the episode, this character begins a scene directly from the comics which ends in the death of one of the most favorite characters. Warning, as always, this is a spoiler warning.
So in the "The Walking Dead" Season 6 Finale, we see Carl, Rick, and the gang begin to rush Maggie, who is experiencing an unexplained sickness, to the Hilltop Colony where she can be treated. Glenn, Daryl, Sasha, and Rosita have already been captured, and Daryl was shot by Dwight. In the end, Rick's group are caught by none other than Negan himself and lined up. Negan is going to execute one of them, but whom? The producers specifically manipulated the camera and the editing so that it is impossible to select who Negan killed with his barbed-wire-wrapped baseball bat, Lucille. In fact, the final seen with Negan wasn't even filmed with the cast. It was filmed with him hitting the camera with the bat so that the audience would see a first-person attack on a character.
"The Walking Dead" producers ended this season on a cliffhanger, and they did it by hinting the death of Glenn, who dies in this situation in the comics. But here's why I believe it isn't Glenn who got Lucille'd.
Although Glenn dies this way in the comics, the show doesn't always follow the comics. Glenn has narrowly escaped death all season, even taking refuge under a dumpster at one point. Next, Glenn didn't get a proper send off. But you know who did?
That's right - Sergeant Abraham Ford. Abraham has had a great arc this season. He finally started to go after what he wanted. He has also found happiness and contemplated starting a family. In this episode, the last one of Season 6, he had an emotional send off with Eugene, and he finally gave Eugene his respect. They shook hands and separated to complete their own separate missions. Abraham's was to get Maggie to Hilltop while Eugene ran a distraction. It ultimately failed, but these are the reasons why it is likely Abraham is who was brought up to bat.
1. Abraham already died in the comics, and he has completed his story.
Abraham Ford, in the TV show, has succeeded in being a major contributor to the group. Despite his language and hilarious word choices, he has consistently gotten the group out of trouble and helped defeat enemies that the group has had to face. He has come far enough in character development to decide that he wants Sasha. And when there is a new relationship on The Walking Dead, except for Maggie's and Glenn's, a death is sure to follow to break it up.
2. Abraham is the comic relief.
Ford commonly spouts all kinds of hilarious lines. From what the comics teach us, Negan also does that quite well. So it seems like a "there can only be one situation."
3. He's a reasonable suspicion.
Negan was going to execute one of Rick's group to communicate a message. And to do that, he would need to kill someone strong, but it couldn't be Rick because he's the leader. Daryl was injured - shot in the shoulder. Maggie was sick. Carl was one-eyed, and Eugene was bawling. Glenn and Abraham are the only ones whom Negan could have picked. And Glenn is most likely eliminated because he hasn't gotten a proper sendoff.
This is merely speculation. For all I know, it was Eugene who was got Lucille'd, but Abraham is my best guess because his death makes the most sense. Again, these are just my opinions so...
