If you are an IU student finding a spot to study on campus might seem sort of hard to do. Wells Library always seems full and the IMU always seems pretty loud. However, there are so many other places to study than just the two main buildings so here's a list of my top places to study with some additional important information.

1. Franklin Hall

Noisiness: 3/10. Franklin Hall is always fairly quiet. They do have a giant television screen in the commons but even still the volume is turned down relatively low and the chatter of other students is minimal.

Distance to the nearest Starbucks: across the street. If you need to grab some coffee or a quick muffin during your studying, literally all you have to do is walk out the door and cross the street.

Available seating: There are lots of chairs in the commons and several tables in the commons and upstairs. There are also private rooms for group study sessions.

2. Fine Arts Library

Noisiness: 0/10. The library literally has a sign that says no talking. So if you like listening to your music really loudly or want to talk to your friends you might be studying with, this isn't the place for you.

Distance to the nearest Starbucks: Although it is pretty far from a Starbucks the fine arts library is connected to the art museum where the Angles cafe serves coffee. You only need to go downstairs to grab some coffee.

Available seating: There are are a lot of desks and chairs upstairs and downstairs and its usually never busy so you will be sure to find a spot.

3. Global International Studies Building

Noisiness: 5/10. Classes do take place in the GIS Building so when a class gets out the noise level rises, but otherwise, the GIS Building is normally fairly quiet. Especially on weekends.

Distance to the nearest Starbucks: A Starbucks is once again not near this building but over at Wells Library (which is the building right next door) is a coffee place where you can grab a drink real fast.

Available seating: Although the Global and International Studies Building is full of mostly classrooms, they do have some seating next to the gorgeous and spacious windows, and private study rooms as well.

4. On the grass by Woodburn

Noisiness: 5/10. It might be noisy when classes let out and students are walking around but it's normally pretty peaceful next to Jordan River and under the shade of trees.

Distance to the nearest Starbucks: A less than 10 minute walk. There's a Starbucks at the IMU which is right across from Woodburn

Available seating: There are a lot of places to study in the grassy area but you have to be O.K. with sitting on the grass without tables and chairs.

5. Art Museum

Noisiness: 2/10. The art museum is never noisy because, well, it's an art museum.

Distance to the nearest Starbucks: There's a cafe inside the art museum right next to the tables and chairs so need for Starbucks when there's a coffee place right next to you.

Available seating: It's never busy which means you will always a find a spot.

Next time you think about hitting up Wells or the IMU maybe go to these 5 places instead.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

There have been many lessons learned.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
