X-Men Apocalypse has been in theaters for several weeks and has received mixed reviews, but undoubtedly there will be more X-Men films in the future. Frankly, I enjoyed the film and I am looking forward to the next installment; however, there are some things that they should do going forward, such as:
The Rise of The Brotherhood of Mutants
X-Men: First Class gave rise to the belief that The Brotherhood was now going to form, but in Days of Future Past that seemed to have gone completely to the wayside. Magneto needs to officially go his own way from Charles, which Apocalypse seemed to suggest. The only problem going forward is "are they going to stick to it this time?" We have seen that society is still to a degree hostile towards mutants, regardless of saving the world in Days of Future Past. I know the original X-Men films are wiped from the timeline, but The Brotherhood of Mutants needs to exist and they need to be a serious antagonistic force.
Giving Other Characters a Mulligan
We can all agree that X-Men III The Last Stand as well X-Men Origins Wolverine were garbage tier films and many characters were used so poorly. The hard reboot of the X-Men franchise opens up certain characters getting another chance to be on the big screen, such as:
Juggernaut
X-Men III The Last Stand featured Vinnie Jones as Cain Marko....and it sucked. Jones embodied the essence of Marko, but he was marred by cheesy dialogue and generally poor writing. Other characters have been given mulligans, such as Colossus and more notably, Deadpool so why not Juggernaut? It would also be interesting to see a slight origin story to show Cain coming by the Crimson Gem of Cytorrak, the means through which he obtained his powers as he is not a traditional mutant. In addition to this, since everyone has gotten comic-accurate costumes, it would be incredible to see Juggernaut in his form seen above.
Sabretooth
X-Men Origins Wolverine had Liev Schreiber playing Sabretooth. Now this FILM sucked, but I thoroughly enjoyed Schreiber's performance as Victor Creed. While this film was created as a way of forming conflict with Wolverine and Sabretooth, he could still be a part of Magneto's Brotherhood, but reconciling the property of the current X-Men films where apparently no one ever ages.
Toad
Toad was only in the first X-Men movie from 2000, portrayed by Ray Park. Toad is another character that was not hampered by a bad performance or even a bad film really. Just after 16 years, it would be nice to see a new take on the character as he has not been seen since.
Finally Make Mystique the Villain That She Is
For reasons unknown to me, FOX has tried to hero up Mystique (although it's likely that they did this for no reason other than her being portrayed by Jennifer Lawrence). This is a complete deviation from the comics where Mystique has killed, adults and children alike. The only requirement for this though would be some event that makes Mystique put her siding with Magneto. The new X-Men films in general have had a problem with making traditional villains into good guys and I'm frankly hoping that stops. Heroes should be heroes and villains should be villains.
