America was once great and America was once a dream. Over the years, our country has been shot down and injured, but America was once again revived with the help of its people, just like it has during the wars it was involved with. There have been many battles in and concerning our country, but the only difference between the battles in history and the battles that are happening now is the attacks are not from other countries, but from our own people. We are attacking and abolishing each other for what purpose? To merely prove a point? To prove rights? We are only making our country weaker and more susceptible to more serious attacks that may not even be within our country. LET OFF HERE! By showing weakness, is an open opportunity for a stronger outside force to abolish us and we do not realize how dangerous it really is. We are supposed to be united together to make our country strong. As a whole, our country should not be so determined to divide up all the people by skin color and should not be focused on ourselves and how we are not treating everyone equally, but we should be focusing on the important things that can destroy our country within days. This includes things such as the attacks from ISIS and economic faults. We should not be so focused on killing off “races” in our country, but we should be united together as one whole country and defeat the real issues that our country is facing. If we do not stop killing each other off because of the racial issue, our country is going to start circling the drain.
The shooting in Dallas on July 7, 2016, was one of many incidents that greatly exemplifies our country’s situation. The shooting started in downtown Dallas, Texas where protestors were shaken due do wild shots of a sniper from a higher building. As an act of defense, officers showed up to the scene and risked their lives for the hundreds of pedestrians not only on that block, but for the city of Dallas. In the act of bravery, 5 fearless officers were shot to death and 6 other people were injured in the act. Facts show that the shooter was one of our own- a brave man who served to defend our country. The shooter said that he acted alone and the reason why he started the shooting is because he wanted to kill white police officers. He wanted to kill them in defense of the two black people that were killed by officers this past week.
To me, this shooting was an act of proving the strength of a group of people with a different skin color, but we should not have to prove what we are because in this great country of ours, we stand as united people.
Another incident that exemplifies the crumbling of our country is the shooting in Minnesota at a traffic stop this week. According to the girlfriend of the victim in a video that went viral this past Thursday, Philando Castile and his girlfriend and child were pulled over by an officer due to a burned out taillight. Castile’s girlfriend, Diamond Reynolds, then described how her boyfriend informed the officer that he was carrying a firearm which was on his ankle. The officer asked him if he was licensed to carry one and Mr. Castile said yes. The officer asked Castile to pull out his license and as he put his hand in his pocket to retrieve his wallet, the police officer freaked out, thinking Castile was reaching for his gun. Castile was told to put his hands up and as he was doing so, he was shot multiple times. In the viral video, Castile was laying in the car almost unconscious with the officer right by the car door with his gun pointed at Castile. This shooting shows that officers need to be more cautious when it comes to innocent situations like this. The officer was doing his job, but it did not call for the act of shooting. Castile was innocent and he was following the law, but there is nothing else we can do in this situation except to mourn for Castile’s death.
Despite the bad judgment call with the officer in Minnesota, our band of forces protects our country and the job they have is to enforce the laws of America. They are also here to protect our country by eliminating the people who are purposefully harming the innocent people. If we want a defense system, we have to do our part and stand for with defense system as one united country.
To sum the idea up, we should start focusing on other issues that will affect us as a whole country instead of focusing on the things that start battles against each other. We are tearing ourselves apart and that is the most dangerous thing a country can do because we are then left as a vulnerable group to other outside forces.
