Where And What To Eat In Berkeley, According To Your College Major
East Bay Express

Here, in the glorious city of Berkeley, we are blessed with an abundance of food surrounding UC Berkeley’s campus. But, sometimes when you’re presented with too many choices, you may feel overwhelmed and confused -- not the best way to feel when choosing where to go for your lunch date. So, we at Odyssey are here to help you navigate our college town’s food scene based on your major or intended major (because that CS GPA cap takes no survivors).

Engineering and Computer Science: Kamikaze Fries from KoJa Kitchen

Who has time to venture far into the city’s mazes when you’re about to get Hilfingered by your CS project due in two days? Telegraph Avenue has everything you need, and if you live in the Units, it’s close by. If you don’t really have much time, but you would still like to try something experimental and interesting, check out KoJa -- a Korean-Japanese fusion joint that you’ve probably heard of at some point of your college career at Cal.

Education: Gilroy Garlic Mac and Cheese from Homeroom

Education majors may have to deal with children of all ages at some point in time, so what better way is there to understand the mind of a child than to unleash your own inner child? Homeroom’s mac and cheese will make you feel warm and fuzzy inside, especially for the kind and fun personality of an Education major.

Biological Sciences, College of Natural Resources, and Pre-Med: Lemon and Ricotta Hotcakes from Venus

A sleepy, easygoing brunch spot that offers healthy and vegan options? Berkeley has you covered. Venus is a restaurant and cafe slow enough to let a pre-med student breathe after yet another sleepless night. There’s no better cure for the suffering, pain, and OCD than a plate of lemon and ricotta hotcakes along with a cup of hot cocoa with Chantilly cream.

Psychology/Sociology: Daily Pizza from Sliver Pizzeria

Look, you can’t go wrong with pizza, especially pizza from Sliver. Sliver tailors its daily special to the tastes of the public, and everyone can’t get enough of their famed “green sauce.” No matter who you talk to or where you go, everyone loves these students, just like how everyone has a positive view of pizza. The accepting, open-minded psychology and sociology major is charismatic and likeable, probably because their majors are centered around people.

Political Science, Pre-Law, Economics, and Pre-Haas: Mint Mojito Iced Coffee from Philz Coffee

Pre-law and pre-business folks tend to have logical, straightforward personalities, but their creative and enterprising attitudes often go overlooked. For these gifted students, why not find a coffeeshop known for its sharp coffee and creative menu options? Try the mint mojito iced coffee from Philz.

Art, Music, and Theater: Daily Special from Cinnaholic

Cinnaholic’s custom-made, vegan, and gluten-free cinnamon rolls are an art project of their own. With over 30 topping options and 30 frosting options, building your own cinnamon roll is truly an exercise for the creative mind that seeks to create a cinnamon roll that looks too good to eat. Plus, these cinnamon rolls are so ~aesthetic~ that they make for great pictures to put on Instagram!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
