When I started college the thing that scared me the most was having to live with a total stranger. It took me over a month to find a roommate that I thought would mesh well with me. I spent an entire summer dreading meeting this stranger from Wisconsin. It’s not like I could Facebook stalk the guy (he had just joined Facebook). So, I was stuck with a singular profile picture and the brief conversations that we made through messenger. The conversations weren’t anything deep or extravagant. They mostly consisted of asking typical questions: What’s your favorite color, your favorite musician, how do you want the temperature in the room to be like? I’m sure I wasn’t the only freshman that felt this way, but I can say that I was lucky enough to like the guy I choose as a roommate. We meshed so well that we are close friends now. I’d go as far as to say that he is one of my closest friends in the world.
It was for this very same reason that when he mentioned the idea of becoming an RA that I freaked out. If he got the position (which I never doubted he would get) then I’d be back to trying to figure out who I’d room with in the fall. There wasn’t much I could do but be an encouraging friend. I told him to apply (while giving him grief for leaving me) and that we (better yet I) would cross that bridge when we came to it. For a while, I could ignore the idea because the application process was a long one with a robust applicant pool.
Then right before spring break, we got the news and I found myself looking for a new roommate. While I am happy for him it doesn’t mean I can’t be a tad bit petty and give him grief for the next couple of weeks. After all, he is leaving me and I must deal with this emotional time in my life somehow. Therefore, I have compiled a range of GIFs and memes to express the tumultuous hurricane that is my feelings.
I will admit that this may be a bit petty and that I am being melodramatic, but I am ok with that.
Oh, Why?!
If you have ever been in this situation the first question is this one.
It's been a tough one
I mean its freshman year of college! Obviously, it has been a tough year for me and now I must deal with this too!
More self-doubt
Was I not a great roommate? This is me being melodramatic because I know I am an amazing roommate and he knows it too.
Need a new buddy
Now who well help me keep myself out of trouble! Clearly, I can't be his only priority anymore.
It's his fault
I know I'm great, but so is he which is why this is so hard.
Open Hours!
I require constant attention. I will be in his room 24/7 and I expect him to answer to my messages quicker than the speed of light.
Goodbyes
Finally, goodbyes suck, but I know it's not really a goodbye!
