Throughout my entire life, I have been told that I am a spitting image of my mother. I have never thought of it as a bad thing, but never could see why people said it to be true. Now, after adjusting to college life, it has become very clear to me just how similar we are. Not only do I drive like her, but I also have picked up on her modesty and confidence that she has supplied me with while growing up. So here is to my best friend, also known as my mother:
When you see yourself in your mother
You aren’t really sure what to do
You think to yourself, she doesn’t even look like you!
But while peeling back the evidence it is easily found
That you are indeed her daughter, every which way around
You notice the small things first
And eventually the rest
Whether it be when taking care of your friends
Or even getting dressed
Her modesty is now in your veins
And you even have her quick witted brains
When you see yourself in your mother
It will soon become clear
That after all the years of growing up to be like her
Your smile will be from ear to ear
You will smile because your mother was there
Through the good times and the bad
When you were happy or sad
She was your shoulder to cry on
And also the one to wake you for school at dawn
When you see yourself in your mother
You will be forever thankful to have a friend so close to home
No matter how far away you roam
When your mother sees herself in you
You are unaware but she knows it’s true
She’s been told your entire life how similar you are
And now it’s proven when you get in the car
After a long first semester apart, she will see very quick
That her old habits, are now your go to trick
You two will talk and talk through the night
Only to realize that it will soon be daylight
When your mom sees herself in you
She will realize that your time together went by too quick
And that without you there she will get homesick
When the time comes for you two to be apart
Your mother will always a special place in your heart
Through all the fights and tantrums
She would do it all again for you
So as you get out of the car to venture on your own
Remember that your mother has always known
That you will be her little girl
No matter what age or what you put each other through
Because the bond between a mother and daughter
Is stronger than any other
Love you mom.
