I was born in 1995, which means that I've grown up with all the 21st century woes. I'm a child raised on technology, movies like Harry Potter and artists like Justin Bieber. Don't get me wrong, technology is amazing and I love Harry Potter, but now that I'm about to be 20, I've realized that I was definitely born in the wrong era.
When I was growing up, my parents always made sure that I knew about the past, especially in the pop culture area. So, for me it was more interesting to watch movies or listen to songs that were much older than those from my own time. It was (and still is) a no-brainer for me to get pumped up with 80s music rather than listening to Justin Bieber sing about his ex-girlfriend. Nowadays, there are certainly popular music artists who I love and are worth my money, but if someone were to tell me that every song that was ever recorded in the 80s was coming out in a CD, I would pay anything and everything for it. These songs are just more provocative, meaningful, historical, and fun. The artists thought more about making a real song than the money they would get from it.
The music and movie industry of my era just does not seem as real to me as those of the past. I don't get nearly as excited with new movies or music as I do when I listen to an oldie that I've never heard before. The feeling is just not the same. I enjoy the artist of my time but in my heart and soul, I belong in another. The way those movies and songs survived through all these years is amazing, yet completely understandable. In my opinion, no modern music or even movies will ever have such an impact in the future as songs and movies from the past do now. Seriously, if there is ever a movie as influential as "The Breakfast Club" or a song like "Every Breath You Take," please tell me. Until then, my heart will always belong to a time before mine.
