Just in the past week, we have seen an overwhelming amount of tragedy all around the world. Syrian refugees have next to nowhere to go, there were terrorist attacks in Beruit, Baghdad, and Paris, and Japan was hit by a 6.7 magnitude earthquake. So much tragedy in such a short amount of time is enough to give anyone a bleak outlook on the world as a whole. Fortunately, there is still some good left in the world. As Albus Dumbledore once said, "Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times if one only remembers to turn on the light."
1. Puppies and kittens exist
Look at this adorableness! How can this picture alone not make you feel at least a little bit better. Puppies and kittens are literally touchable happiness. If you're feeling down, I highly advise you to go to YouTube and just watch videos of them. However, this will not help one's general productivity, so there is that risk.
2. Music
Whether it is Bach or Nicki Minaj, music has some serious healing powers. It's hard to think of any situation in life where there is not a song to describe it. A lot of our happiest memories involve music. Countless lives have been saved with simply a song. Many have made long lasting friendships simply from sharing similar tastes in music. When you feel down and out, relaxing with your headphones in is one of the most effective and inexpensive forms of therapy on the planet.
3. Netflix
I probably don't need to remind you of how amazing Netflix is. There are thousands of movies and tv shows streaming at your very fingertips. What a time to be alive, right? Just be careful not to overdo your Netflix binges.
4. Books
There's nothing like a relaxing evening of curling up with a good book, that is unless the book is sad or otherwise puts you through an emotional rollercoaster. Still, reading is a wonderful thing. I love the smell of them, old or new. There is just something enchanting about being able to get lost in other times and worlds simply through the power of words. Even if you are one of those people who refuses to read but loves television or movies, you should know that a lot of your favorite shows and movies were adapted from books.
5. Food
Celebration? Food! Death? Food! Break up? Food! Holidays? So much food! Eating is not only necessary for life. It is also enjoyable for many. There is so much food out there I know I have not tried yet. Whether the occasion is formal or laid back, dinner really brings people together. What are the magic words to get any college student to come to any event? Free food.
