Remember summer holidays as a kid? Being released from school and seeing nothing but weeks of freedom, sunshine, sun kissed skin, salty hair? As we get older the summers get shorter and the "vacations" do not seem like breaks anymore. Wouldn't it be nice to escape the many stresses of life, work, and school for what we could call a real vacation/break? I think we can all agree that growing up sometimes stinks.
I mean of course it's exciting getting accepted into college, beginning college, and before you know it you're two years into college. The next minute you're trying to get accepted into your major and before you know it you've graduated college! Time begins to move so fast that we almost don't see all that we could take in if the days were longer, summer was longer, and vacations didn't just fly by at the speed of light.
Growing up has its many responsibilities and most of the time they hit us before we are ever ready for them. Wouldn't it be nice to be young again and not have so many different things to worry about all at once? It would be so nice to just relax on the beach the entire summer, but instead we are catching up on all the things we weren't able to accomplish while in school. We go get our physicals, our dental check ups, and then try to do 500 other things that were pushed back on that To-Do list. It just never seems to end.
It's good for your health to step back and take a vacation.
If you're anything like me, you know just how important it is to take days to yourself. Some days are tough and we need to take a break from life's stresses and sit back and smell the roses. Vacations are so important for our well-being and it can be so good for us to escape reality for a few days. Believe it or not, it's good for our health. Research shows that not only are vacations good for us but they may also increase productivity meaning that they are good for us in the workplace. Yes, it may be an obvious one but vacations make you happier. Many studies show that after a vacation workers are less tense and stressed, more likely to be in better moods, and have higher levels of energy.
Recharging your batteries.
Rejuvenating is the key to being able to work effectively. Without it, you're destined to expire and your health, work, and relationships will eventually pay the price. Give your brain a rest. Stressing out and working hard eventually leads to exhaustion. It is important that you recharge those batteries and give yourself solid break whether it be a weekend or a whole week. Giving your mind a rest is beneficial to getting an effective work done. College students most definitely benefit from vacations. Depending on the workloads of their studies, many students do not find much time to vacation except for the short holiday breaks, which are often still burdened with school work. When you give your body a chance to recoup it pays off in the long run and you will be more effective in the future.
It improves your relationships.
Sharing time with your friends and family without the distractions and daily stresses of life creates happiness and builds memories that bond. Since we as people crave a sense of belonging, vacation offers a connectedness that is not going to be achieved anywhere else. Surrounding yourself with unconditional love from family can cure anything that stands in your way.
Traveling with a significant other can increase intimacy and commitment. Couples who support each other to take times to themselves, including vacation times, offer each other the perfect opportunity to break from from all their life roles. It's the perfect gift of being just "you."
