“Two arms around me
Heaven to ground me
And a family that always calls me home”
-Lennon and Maisy, A Life That’s Good
As the summer begins many college students, myself included, have begun to adjust to living at home again.
“Home” is a different concept to everyone, but it usually means a place where you feel safe and wanted, where the people you love the most are.
Thinking about home also brings up something different for everyone. For example, when I think of home I think of mountains, open skies, my dog and my family.
When you think about everything that’s associated with home: love, belonging and safety, you realize how much of a compliment it is when someone says they feel at home with you or with your family. It means that they feel safe to be themselves, without judgment or harshness.
One of the best things that happens when you come home for the summer is realizing that you are part of “home” to someone else. Without you there, home isn’t complete for that person.
Being part of what someone calls “home” is a privilege most of us are fortunate enough to have, and it is something to be grateful for every day.
