When I Saw Sam Darling Again

Part Two of 'How I Met Sam Darling'

Two weeks passed before I saw Sam Darling again. We had texted each other every day since the first time we met under the Urban lights. Sam and I agreed to spend the weekend together, as we lived on opposite sides of the city, and we decided to stay at her apartment.

We met at a small cafe near her apartment and I immediately spotted her when I walked in - she was the only one who looked like an angel. She stood up when she saw me and gave me the warmest embrace I had received in a long time before we sat down at a table. “Hot chocolate. I know you don’t like coffee.”

Sam slid a warm cup towards me and I smiled at the doodles she had created on the side of the cup. “Thank you.” I took a sip of the warm liquid as we talked and decided to walk around. It was surprisingly quite cool out and I took comfort in the drink Sam had bought me. We weaved through bustling crowds as we made our way down to the beach where the waves looked gray with the overcast skies blocking out any color. But she turned the black and gray world into blazing color.

Once we reached the beach, we sat down on a harder part of the sand and looked out at the dark water. We spent hours there just talking, laughing, and finding out everything we could about each other. We eventually ran into the ocean and as our hair became soaked and makeup washed off, I couldn’t believe how naturally gorgeous she looked. Splashing wars broke out before we dunked each other underwater and when I came up for air, Sam was just looking at me and smiling - a smile that seemed full of joy.

Thunder cracked overhead as water began to fall and refill an eternal ocean. I smoothed my hair back and smiled at her through the rain and she swam closer to me. I put my hand on her arm under the water and soon enough, we were no more than two inches apart. The silence was filled with raindrops hitting the expanse of water surrounding us and my pounding heart, until Sam finally leaned in and kissed me. It was slow and sweet and made me feel calm even in the middle of the storm overhead.

The only person who has ever made everything else disappear in the eye of a hurricane was Sam Darling.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
