I know it's always nice to be able to lean on broad shoulders when you're feeling down or to be held in strong arms when you're crying over your endless amounts of schoolwork, but no one is able to disagree with me when I confidently say that ice cream makes you feel better than a strong pair of arms or broad shoulders ever will. Here are four times when I relied on ice cream as if it was my boyfriend:
1. When I didn't actually have a boyfriend. After experiencing many break-ups over the course of two years, I began to rely on ice cream more than the actual boy himself. Every time we fought, ice cream was there. When we broke up, I knew I could cry with ice cream. Ice cream always made me feel better than he ever did and it never made me cry.
2. When I was over-stressed. Between schoolwork, extracurriculars, keeping a job, and attempting to maintain a social life, the teenage years can be exceedingly stressful. While I sit and stress over finishing a paper on time, I eat Ben&Jerry's to ease the pressure. After an 8 hour shift of dealing with cranky customers, I lay in bed and relax with Carvel. Ice cream never gives me the attitude that customers do at work. It never pressures me to finish a paper on time. It just makes me happy and feel less stressed than I am.
3. Even when I'm excited. The last two examples are kind of on the negative side, but I love sharing my happy moments with ice cream, too. They make all the great moments even greater. After a performance, I celebrate with ice cream. Road trip with friends? Make a pit stop for some ice cream. Ice cream makes bright days a million times brighter. What boy can do that?
4. When you're feeling lonely. We all have our days when we feel like no one is on our side but whenever I feel that way, I remember ice cream is always on my side. Whether its soft serve, in a tub, or on a cone, I know the ice cream will always have my back. It's always there when I need it most, just a spoonful away...
Ice cream, thank you for listening to me cry over a stupid boy, ease my stress over exams, and remind me that I'm never alone. I appreciate everything you do for me everyday. I only have one more request for you: please don't go straight to my thighs!
