The week after move in is what I like to call “the honeymoon phase.” You’re sure you and your roommate are not going to have any conflicts, your classes seem easy, and the food doesn’t seem as bad as last year. But it all goes (slightly) downhill from there.
This isn’t to say that college is not awesome, but at some point, reality does set in. Your roommate does something to annoy you, your teachers crack down on the homework and quizzes, and the food becomes repetitive. So how do you keep this slump from puling you down? I’m here with some ways to keep out of the post-honeymoon ditch!
- Keep your Engage in 8! and USE it!
- The activities do lessen after classes start, but that doesn’t mean that campus is totally boring! Read up on what’s going on and don’t forget that homecoming is on its way!
- “Treat Yo Self.”
- Campus food, although usually decent, can get very boring, very fast. So either make the trek across campus to eat somewhere you aren’t around very much or treat yourself to a meal off-campus (even if it’s just Taco Bell!). You could also rally some friends and do some cooking in your hall kitchen!
- Attend your floor programs!
- Your RA put the thought and usually some money into your floor programs – have the decency to go but stay for the comradery! You could have more fun than you anticipated.
- See the signs!
- Right about now, new programs and clubs are popping up everywhere, and they’re advertising! Read some of those signs and you may find a new hobby or just something to do on Tuesday nights!
- Go to the gym!
- Wait, what? The gym? Working out is usually the opposite of fun for a lot of people. BUT the North Rec boasts an aquatic center with awesome features like a rock wall, a zip line, and a hot tub. Best of all? Entry is FREE with your student ID! Just scan your ID at the front desk!
