Until there are no more goodbyes

When You Give A Girl A Fiancé in the Navy
Madison Kolakowski

When you give a girl a fiancé in the Navy, she can't start wedding planning right away. She has to finish school, while he deploys. She doesn't have time to sit down and talk about ideas or dream weddings. This doesn't stop her from looking and pinning ideas as she waits patiently for the day to come when he returns home and they can start to plan their big day together with their loved ones.

When you give a girl a fiancé in the Navy, nothing is ever set in stone. Leave is always up in the air, it may or may not get approved. She learns to not get her hopes up too high, because nothing is ever set with the military. They might plan a phone call, FaceTime, or a trip to see each other, but there's always the possibility plans could fall through.

When you give a girl a fiancé in the Navy, she learns to appreciate all the little things more. She learns to count her blessings more. She learns to love every part of him, even if some of his habits are slightly annoying, because she would do anything to have him home with her.

When you give a girl a fiancé in the Navy, she learns to brave the unknown. Deployment can be a scary thing, but she reminds herself part of the reason he joined was to explore the world. She reminds herself of what home coming will feel like, how sweet the "first kiss" be, and all the amazing stories he'll have to tell.

When you give a a girl a fiancé in the Navy, she will be proud of him and all he endures and pushes through. The military isn't any kind of easy when it comes to anything. He tells her all of his problems and obstacles even if she doesn't totally understand. She is proud of him for never giving up and persevering through his hard days.

When you give a girl a fiancé in the Navy, she will be sad some days. She will feel like they are missing out together on events. She will miss days just relaxing at home and laughing together. She will think of him when she drives by places they use to go together and wish for his next leave to come sooner.

When you give a girl a fiancé in the Navy, she will feel a type of way that is indescribable (unless you've been through it). A feeling that is a whirlwind of emotions that can leave her feeling happy one minute and angry the next. She will feel frustration and happiness all in one and then start crying. She will feel relieved when she finally hears his voice for the first time in weeks.

When you give a girl a fiancé in the Navy, she learns to love unconditionally. She is his number one support, as he is hers. She talks to him when they can, writes him letters, sends him photos, and keeps him updated on his life back home. She has a strong heart, but is waiting for the day she is back in his arms, and there are no more goodbyes.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
