1. You’ve decided to start the journey of makeup
You have already dabbled in the world of makeup before. You’re highly skilled with the application of mascara, and you can do somewhat of a decent winged liner. After seeing the countless Instagram tutorials of people contouring, and the incredible transformations, you decide it can’t be that hard. Why not give it a try?
2. Makeup tutorial
You scour YouTube to find someone of your similar complexion. You take note of the products and brushes they used. You wonder what the significance of that certain brush is and if it is interchangeable. You imagine how dramatic your transition will be. You convince yourself that there is really nothing to it and you can easily recreate these looks.
3. The first shopping trip
You can start off a bit cheaper with drug store makeup, or you go all out with Sephora, Ulta, or Mac. There will probably be different experiences depending on your choice. You can get matched if you go to Mac or Sephora and they’ll help you pick out things depending on your skin type and goals. Going to the pricier places will make it easier if you’re fitted correctly. But if you’re looking to go on your own adventure and find your own path you can do you own thing. It is cheaper to find makeup at the drugstore, but there will be trial and error involved. You thought you matched it to your skin in the store but when you got home saw that it didn't match your undertones very well. So it is worth it in the sense that you save money but there is probably a lot of time wasted
4. The first application
You have all your new makeup and you cannot wait to try it out. You watch the makeup tutorials as either a refresher or while applying so that you can get the step by step guide. You find it frustrating how you can’t quite replicate their looks. How do they contour without looking crazy? Why is there so much blending involved? What happens if I bake for too long? You begin to wonder where and how you went wrong. Maybe it’s because I don’t have the same brushes. Maybe the lighting just isn’t right.
5. Practice Practice Practice!
After that first try you totally gave up. But you know that nothing is perfect the first time. So you take it one step at a time learning how to perfect the wing first then learning how to arch and fill in your brows. Every time you perfect a certain part of your look you’re ecstatic. You rarely rely on the tutorials anymore because you know that you can never actually replicate a look. You watch the tutorials for new inspiration and guiders, but ultimately do what you like and enjoy. Soon people are asking you for lessons and tips!
