Change is not something most people are fond of. People like to get in a groove, a comfort zone and do things the way they always have. I've recently encountered a lot of change in my life and I've learned to embrace it.
In the past month, my life has been flipped upside down and then back again. My mom got a new job and her and my dad moved out of my childhood home to another state. My brother, and best friend, got a job in NYC (ten hours away from me) and moved this month. My other brother got a new job and moved into the house that my parents just moved out of. It seems that I'm the only family member that will be returning to do the same thing this year that I did the past year, go back to school.
While all these changes have caused me to have an emotional and unstable summer, I couldn't be happier for my family. Seeing the changes they have made and how open they have been to go out of their comfort zones is truly inspiring. My mom is going to do a job that she's never done is a new state, my dad is moving with her with uncertainty of a new job, and my brother is moving ten hours away... ALONE. These three demonstrate the kind of courage I'd someday like to have. The ability to change when change calls on you.
While I may be sad about my brother leaving or uneasy about my parents moving out of the home I grew up, I've learned this summer that change is good. I got to spend a week in New York with my brother where I got to do so many amazing things I can't begin to list them all and I got to see what life can be like outside of my comfort zone. Through my mom's new job, I get to go into her athletics program and help grow some of her athletes. All these changes have shown me how much more there is to life than going with the flow and doing the same thing for the rest of my life.
My family has demonstrated to me that life can be great anywhere and when change comes to my life and says "Go," that I should go without looking back, no matter how scary it may seem. Change is necessary and change can be beautiful.
"To improve is to change; to be perfect is to change often."
