Following the debate last Sunday, there were many arguments on who had won and how. But on Tuesday, October 11, another argument appeared on Twitter.
Nate Silver posted on his twitter account a picture showing the results if only women were allowed to vote and another showing if only men were allowed to vote. The pictures were starkly contrasting; the women’s election map showed Hillary Clinton getting 458 electoral votes.
While the men’s election map showed Donald Trump getting 350 electoral votes.
Only needing 270 electoral votes, the posts implied that if only women voted Clinton would win and if only men voted Trump would win.
This led to #RepealThe19th to become trending on twitter. This refers to the 19th amendment that allowed women the right to vote and was ratified in 1920. The hashtag was filled with both Trump supporters and anti-Trump people. The Trump supporters were obviously latching onto this, wanting to express that women should not be allowed to vote. Others were commenting on the fact that this completes the demeaning events towards women this week. This, of course, following the comments Trump had made in 2005.
It does seem highly unlikely that an amendment can be repealed in less than a month before the election. This being another example to the burning question as to why women are voting for Trump.
