The End-of-Semester Events You Don't Want to Miss!

What's On At Western?

Can you believe it? The school year is almost over! With only two weeks standing between us and finals, here are some events you Colonials don’t want to miss. Be sure to take advantage of all the WestFest events and everything else this university offers as the semester winds down. It's time to make these last few weeks count!

1. Acapocalypse

Monday, April 25, 8:00 p.m.

Ives Concert Hall

All of Western’s a capella groups come together one night a year for a whole lot of fun. Come see Martini Glass, Play It By Ear, and Parallel Fifths perform!

2. IRHA’s Banachek, the Mentalist

Tuesday, April 26, 8:00 p.m.

Westside Campus Center Ballroom

Prepare to have your mind blown. Words can’t describe it; you need to see him yourself to believe it. You won’t want to miss this.

3. PAC’s Kettle Korn

Wednesday, April 27, 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Student Center Plaza

If you’ve never experienced Kettle Korn then you are seriously missing out. Stop by to enjoy a free bag of this tasty giveaway.

4. Newman Dinner

Wednesday, April 27, 5:00 – 8:00 p.m.

Newman Center (across from Newbury Hall)

You wouldn’t dare miss the final Newman Dinner of the year. Come on by for grilled steak and chicken, along with picnic salads and Rice Krispie treats. We all know it’s the place to be this Wednesday evening.

5. SGA’s Lip Sync Battle

Wednesday, April 27, 8:00 p.m.

Ives Concert Hall

What’s better than a good lip sync battle? Now that you're full from the Newman Dinner, come watch your favorite campus organizations fight it out on stage to be the best!

6. PAC’s Chris Distefano from MTV’s Guy Code

Thursday, April 28, 8:00 p.m.

Ives Concert Hall

Prepare yourself for a night full of comedy entertainment. Your sides will be hurting from all the laughing you’ll be doing.

7. WestFest Carnival

Friday, April 29, 6:00 p.m. – 12:00 a.m.

Commuter Parking Lot

Carnival rides, carnival food, and music? You had better be there! Really though, stop by this evening and enjoy this beloved end-of-the-year event.

8. REC’s Oozeball Tournament

Saturday, April 30, 11:00 a.m.

Grass Recreation Field, Westside Campus

Dare to get dirty? Come participate in WesternREC’s third mud volleyball tournament. Oozeball allows you the chance to mix your competitive volleyball skills with your secret desire to play in a 10-inch mud pit.

9. WestFest Picnic

Saturday, April 30, 4:00 – 7:00 p.m.

Alumni Pavilion, Westside Campus

Obviously if there’s food, the college students will come. Take a study break and come enjoy this relaxing picnic with your friends.

10. WestFest Concert – Wiz Khalifa

Saturday, April 30, 7:30 – 10:00 p.m.

Ives Concert Park

You’ve all been waiting for it! The completion of WestFest Week comes with a concert straight from Wiz Khalifa himself. This exclusive Western-only event is sure to be lit!

11. Grad Salute (Senior Event)

Wednesday, May 4, 3:00 – 7:00 p.m.

O’Neill Center

When Grad Salute happens, you know Commencement isn’t far behind. There will be a number of information booths and tables with giveaways (as well as cap and gown pick up!), so give yourself so time to take it all in.

12. Western Research Day

Friday, May 6, 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Science Building

This 12th annual Western Research Day is an opportunity to display and present all of the hard work and research students have completed throughout the year.

13. Chase Rice – Back to College Tour

Friday, May 6, 6:00 – 10:30 p.m.

Ives Concert Park

Sit back, relax, and enjoy a country concert brought straight to your campus. There’s no better way to kick off the summer vibes than enjoying a concert with Chase Rice!

14. Casino Night (Senior Event)

Friday, May 13, 6:00 p.m. – 2:30 a.m.

Off-Campus

Calling all seniors: be sure to make this most of Senior Weekend! This weekend kicks off with a trip to Foxwoods, with entrance into the Shrine Nightclub for all attending. Let’s do this right!

15. Senior Cruise (Senior Event)

Saturday, May 14, 5 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.

Off-Campus

Next up for Senior Weekend, don’t miss the Lady Katherine Cruise. This elegant evening of drinks, dinner, and dancing makes for a memorable highlight of your senior career.

16. Senior Barbecue (Senior Event)

Sunday, May 15, 4:00 p.m.

Midtown Quad

Last, but certainly not least, comes the final day of Senior Weekend. Join your classmates on the Midtown Campus to ceremoniously walk out of the Western Gates, followed by a barbecue. It’s time to party – all that’s left now is Commencement!

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
