A picture's worth a thousand words... Or maybe just a sentence.

What Your Facebook Profile Picture Really Means

Ah, Facebook. We've had one since the day it was originated. When you look back at your profile photos, though, this is what they really mean.

**Disclaimer: I have had most if not all of these set as my profile picture on Facebook at one point in time. Please do not take any offense.**

1. The Traveler

"Look at how cultured I am! I went to this fantastic place and now I'm going to spam your entire newsfeed with thousands of photos from my trip to [insert country name here]!"

2. Sports Team

"I am super athletic and I like to do super athletic things with my super athletic friends. Please try to ignore the fact that I was on the JV team all throughout high school and never had any intentions of continuing to play this sport past this time in my life."

3. Senior Portraits

"I'm graduating!" (And if you're a dork like me), "I brought my dog with me, too! Isn't that just so quirky and cute?"

4. Play Advertisements

"I am a freshman in high school playing the part of Background Character #4. I set this as my profile picture to show my dedication to my school's theatre company because it is secretly a cult and they would kill me if I didn't."

5. Somewhere in Nature

"I am just so in touch with my naturalistic side and I want everyone to know it."

6. Dance

"I am a very experienced and fancy dancer. Look at that beauty, look at that grace. I posted this because I'm self conscious about my body and you're all going to tell me that I am a queen."

7. Relationship Photos

"Allow me to obnoxiously shove my relationship in your face. Also, my previous four profile pictures have all been of me and my boyfriend because I really need you to know that we're still together."

8. Prom

"Never in my life will I ever be this dolled up ever again. I'm sure that many of you will be shocked to know that I did my own makeup as well, but not my own hair because I am clearly not that talented."

9. Cartoons

Either, "This is to promote awareness for Childhood Cancer Month" or, "I am twelve years old. Someone please tell my mother about this. I should not be on Facebook."

10. Pets

"This isn't even my dog, but it looks remotely like him and I didn't know what else to put as my profile picture. I am twelve years old so I should really, really not be on this website."

11. Totally Candid

"Look at how good I look even without knowing that I was getting my picture taken!"

12. Siblings

"I'm trying to convince you that I actually get along with my siblings despite evidence to the opposite."

13. Halloween Costume

"I actually worked super hard to look like this character. Please leave a comment acknowledging this fact."

14. Quotes

"I like this quote."

15. A Profile Picture That Hasn't Been Changed In Over A Year

"I have better things to do than sit around choosing a new profile picture."
