Being a twin, I can see how it is difficult for others to understand my relationship with my sister. Twins are so much more than just siblings and there a few things you should know about us.
1. We share everything.
Whether it's the candles on our birthday cake or the clothes in our closet – you name it, I’ve probably used my sister’s and she has probably used mine.
2. The minute doesn't matter.
People always ask, "who is older of the two?" assuming that it makes a difference. We were both born on the same day just a minute apart. One minute or one hour, it's still the same day. Even though the "I'm older card" has shown to be handy in fights, it still doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things.
3. Twin telepathy is not a thing.
You'd be surprised how often we get this question. Unfortunately, twins do not have super powers. We do often know what each other are thinking, but that isn't twin telepathy, that's just spending your whole life with someone and knowing how they think.
4. Yes, we’re twins. No, we don’t look alike.
Just because we're twins does not mean that we have to look identical. We're twins- not clones.
5. We are best friends.
We've grown up with each other and spent almost every waking moment together, so it's only natural that she's my number one. We have so many inside jokes that we can't even try to explain them all.
6. We aren't best friends all the time.
We fight and we fight often, but our fights only last ten minutes. Don't be alarmed if I'm yelling at my sister to take off my favorite flannel one second and laughing about something on twitter with her the next.
7. I'm allowed to make fun of her, but you aren't.
I'm the only one who can make fun of my sister. Period.
8. Mess with her and you mess with me too.
We always look out for each other. If you're going to go at it with one twin, expect to go at it with the other.
At the end of the day, twin relationships are one of a kind. We're siblings and best friends wrapped into one. I don't know where or who I'd be if I wasn't a twin.
