What You Can Make Of Depression
Cheyenne Duran

Depression isn't a joke. Depression isn't a game. And depression isn't a phase. If you must know, depression isn't even all you may think it is.

Depression is hard and there's no way to make it sound easy. It's easy. What makes it even more difficult is the simple thought of feeling alone. It doesn't sound simple, but believe me, that one beginning thought leads to to the endless opportunity for depression to take over.

Fight it. You have to fight the thought of being alone. You're not alone in this world. You need someone to believe in you; I believe in you. I may not even know you and you may not even know me, but know you'll always have someone on your side.

Having someone is different from lust. Don't fall into a pit of lust. That pit is a serious trap and the outcomes aren't what you're looking for. From personal experience, it'll just set you too many steps back. Don't take those steps to set yourself back. This is all about bettering yourself. Don't do that to yourself. Don't set yourself back because you'll have to recover your lost steps.

This life is yours. It's cliché, but you only have your one life. Find the one thing that keeps you moving forward. Honestly, it can be a variety of things and doesn't even have to be one thing. Writing, working out, talking to others, painting the options are endless. It's all up to you though. That's your key. That's THE key. You have to, and must, keep moving forward. Find some way to improve yourself every day. This is all on you. A lifetime journey begins with a single step. Soon, you'll find yourself leaping. It's really cool because it's all you're doing. You'll be the one doing all of the leaping on your own. Depression isn't permanent and depression doesn't define you; it's what you define of depression.

It's all a path. It's a winding and rocky path so you better lace up your hiking boots. Be ready to move forward at all times and don't be afraid to leave something behind. You'll have losses on your path, but more importantly, you'll make gains. Gain the happy things and discard all of the toxic in your life. It's not an easy thing to do sometimes, but this is your life. This is you. This is where you set yourself apart. You're not a victim and you're not alone.

Embrace the happy moments. Embrace the highs. Depression comes in cycles. Just when you think you're at a high, you'll find yourself at a low. Nobody wants to be at a low, but inevitably, you'll find yourself there. Don't stay there. Move forward. After that, keep moving forward. Don't stop and don't settle. You have so much potential and so much to live for. Don't settle for less and don't limit yourself. Day by day and step by step, you'll get there. Who knows, it might not be today. It might not be tomorrow, but it is one day. And on that day, you'll know.

BElieve in YOUrself.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
