What To Write About...
Ethos

April 18, 2016, I began writing articles for Odyssey. That was 16 weeks ago. 16 weeks. 16 articles. 16 topics. Figuring out what to write about each week is that hardest part for me. I don't want things to be too personal or too irrelevant. I cannot be the only person who comes to a major writing block. Here is a list of ideas that can be used for your next articles, for fun, or for a media phenomenon such as Odyssey.

1. Your dream vacation.

Would you rather fly to Ireland or take a road trip to Iowa? Why? With who? Change it up: what if you could only bring three things? Would you include your bring your phone or disconnect yourself from everything else? Is this a week trip? Or a month trip? Or a day trip?

2. Your best friend.

Who is she? Who is he? How long have you been friends? Do they really know everything about you or just super special things? Do you have different best friends from different stages of your life? Do you have one best friend or a big group of super close friends?

3. What is your favorite part about being home from school?

Quick: Which do you like better? Mom doing your laundry or cooking you dinner? Or do you like the small break you have from your friends? Or going home and being closer than you ever were to your siblings who grew a foot since you last saw them? Or do you just love that you no longer have school work to worry about? What about just wanting to go back to school? Are you counting down the days until you move in or could you care any less? What if you actually like school better and not like being home at all? How about vice versa?

4. Your favorite song.

What is the one song you always want to be listening to? Or is it a certain artist that always catches your attention? Do you sing to it or dance to it? What about both? Is there a song you have to listen to when you are sad or one that you have to blast when you are happy?

5. The game of the week.

Are you on this "Pokemon-Go" trend? Or are you still addicted to "Candy Crush"? What about board games? Would you rather play solitaire against computers or Monopoly against your best friends?

Did that help at all? Try to ask an easy question and then ask a bunch of questions off of that. Hopefully that helped just a little bit to get the mind-cycles rolling. Good luck and may the odds be forever for you.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
