“Grown-ish” is a spin-off of the sitcom “Black-ish” that follows Zoey Johnson (Yara Shahidi) on her journey of heading to college and becoming an adult. The show will also star Chloe and Halle Bailey, Trevor Jackson, Francia Raisa, Emily Arlook, Luka Sabbat, and Jordan Buhat. With a cast like this, he show is sure to be successful.
Zoey Johnson heads into her first semester of college and begins her journey to adulthood (which many of us, including myself, can relate to). She soon discovers that everything won’t always go her way and that leaving your parents behind isn’t always the easiest. As a freshman, this is the first time that you’re on your own, in a different environment, and (most likely) hours away from home.
I can definitely relate to this show because as a freshman who just completed their first semester of college, I often felt overwhelmed at times. Also, I quickly figured out that everything isn’t like the movies and shows that are centered around being in college. These movies and shows often inaccurately depict the college experience making them unrelatable.
The show depicts the realities of college such as balancing schoolwork, a social life, and extra-curriculars (which is the hardest starting out, but gets easier as time goes on). I’m excited to watch the series! I think that it will be relateable to first-time college students everywhere. The series airs its first episode January 3, 2018.
