What UNCG Majors Order at Starbucks

The third week of classes starts on Tuesday (thank you Labor Day), and everyone knows what that means: the need for coffee is three times what it was on August 21st. Whether you're taking nine credit hours or eighteen credit hours, coffee is basically the lifeblood of a college student. Between club meetings, tests, studying, and dealing with everything college brings, coffee is basically a necessity to make it from one class to the next. For those of us at UNC Greensboro, we're lucky enough to have a Starbucks in the middle of campus. Each school is for different groups of majors, and here's what I imagine the average coffee order would be for the students of each school.

1. Bryan School of Business: Venti Vanilla Sweet Cream Cold Brew with an extra espresso shot.

As business majors, these students are always looking for the latest trends in society. Whether it's to open their own, creative business or to come up with new solutions for old problems, business students have to be innovative and creative. What better order for them than one of the brand new Starbucks creations? Of course, they get the (second) largest size with an extra shot of espresso for those late nights trying to finish papers and work on things for their internships to become the next generation of creative movers and shakers.

2. College of Visual and Performing Arts: Venti Starbucks Doubleshot on Ice

The newly formed College of Visual and Performing Arts is a conglomeration of the Art, Dance, Music, and Theatre majors of UNCG. These students are on the run basically non-stop (not an intended Hamilton reference, theatre students). Many of them are taking upwards of nine or ten classes for sixteen or less credit hours, not giving them much wiggle room in their schedules. The good thing about this Starbucks drink for these students is that it's sold in bottles in convenience stores, and it has a whopping 375 mg of caffeine. That amount of energy is what these busy students need to make it from the School of Education building to the Music Building in ten minutes, as well as to get them through their crazy, hectic rehearsal and class schedules.

3. School of Education: Grande Strawberry Acai Starbucks Refreshers Beverage

Those who are in school to become teachers are generally incredibly patient people. They have the patience for children (and snotty teens) that not a lot of people have, and a huge amount of caffeine might throw them off. That's why the Starbucks Refresher is a perfect drink for them. It's said on the Starbucks website to be "the perfect afternoon pick-me-up." Who needs that more than a teacher? They've been busy all day dealing with kids, and the refresher is a nice pick me up without making them act like one of their students on a sugar high. The real strawberry pieces are a natural sweetener, and it's a drink you don't have to feel bad drinking in front of kids. It'll help them get through the rest of their day, while still being able to get enough sleep to wake up for class in the morning. This sort of energy will also be beneficial for the English majors and others who are sick of the classic black coffee that keeps them up all night working on their latest adventure. It's a healthier, more natural way to get caffeine, and I'm sure their bodies will all appreciate it.

4. Joint School of Nanoscience and Nanoengineering: Strawberry Smoothie

Now, I know what you're probably thinking. Why would anyone go to Starbucks and order a smoothie? The answer is a simple one: these students are all graduate students. They all know that coffee is an incredible solution in the short term, and a terrible one in the long run. Caffeine gives people the jitters, the shakes. The last thing that these scientists need is something that will make them shaky. Nanoscience and Nanoengineering are studies where students will be working on things at incredibly tiny sizes; one sheet of paper is approximately 75,000 nanometers thick. If they get the caffeine jitters, that could affect their work. No, what they need is a nice smoothie with enough natural energy from the fruits to keep them healthy and motivated through the day.

5. School of Health and Human Sciences: Tall Teavana Shaken Iced Green Tea

This school is the healthy school. They're the people training to be personal trainers, nutritionists, people who help the rest of us stay healthy. What better drink for them than a green tea? Green tea is a proven health drink, one that helps everyone get and stay healthy when under the weather. It's an amazing drink, and it provides the natural energy that these students would appreciate a lot more than caffeine. It helps the body, and that's what these students aim to do in life, so it's a perfect match. They would only get a tall, though. They don't want to drink too much, because anything in moderation is okay but too much isn't good either. This is a bit of a "treat yo' self" beverage, and the benefits are great as well.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
