YouTube

Starting this Fall (2017), UCF students will now have the opportunity to more efficiently connect with employers and land their dream internship, co-op or even career with the assistance of Handshake. The purpose of this program is to "make it easy for any student to find a great job and build the foundation for a great career, no matter where they go to school, what they're majoring in, or who they know."

As a UCF Career services employee, Handshake is a very exciting tool due to its wide versatility and accessibility. When signing in with your UCF ID, Knights can access a substantial amount of career related resources without making a trip to our building on campus.

To access, visit the website http://csel.ucf.edu/ or download the app on your phone! Students are also encouraged to watch this brief orientation video explaining the many benefits. Below are some reasons why you should take advantage of this powerful platform.

1. Students can easily a schedule Career Services or an Experiential Learning appointment.

Need a resume critique, prepare for an interview or even explore majors and possible careers? Then go ahead and schedule an appointment via Handshake with Career Services! We offer these resources at no cost for UCF students so take advantage of them.

2. It's Free!

Enough said. All you need to provide is your UCF log-in information and you're good to go. To get started, complete the sign-up information here.

Once this is sent in, you will have access the following business day and if you experience any difficulties, Experiential Learning (407)-823-2667 is just a quick call away. More information can also be found on Career Services and Experiential website.

3. Getting started is a piece of cake.

Simply log in with any device, complete your profile with your work experiences, skills, etc. then browse collections of jobs and connect with Career Services. Something unique about this program is that it displays jobs based on your profile and interests which saves you time from endlessly scrolling and searching.

4. Students can make their profiles visible to employers and students.

With visibility in mind, Knights can learn from local peers' profiles and begin networking with others in their field of study, on or off campus. Similar to LinkedIn, Handshake allows students to show their best self online by highlighting their career related accomplishments with a customizable profile feature. But what makes this program exceptionally intriguing, is that your profile can be seen directly by employers and can encourage messaging between potential employers.

5. Handshake mobile can send reminders and messages.

Whenever it's a Career workshop, internship application deadline or online mobile career fair, the application can keep any student on top of upcoming events and deadlines. As previously mentioned, students can directly contact employers and vice versa through this platform in regards to the job, internship, co-op etc. opportunities. If you plan on gaining career related experience this year, then save yourself the hassle and create your Handshake profile today!

6. Handshake is also available to UCF Alumni!

Similar to undergrad Knights, Alumni are encouraged to watch the orientation video and agree to terms and conditions prior to accessing. The information required for the process will be your UCF ID (PID) and your Knights.ucf.edu email.

If you have any additional questions, feel free to check out our readily available online resources or contact Career Services via phone, email or visiting on campus.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
