After weeks of texting and phone calls, it is finally time to see you parents in person. The moment has come where you no longer have to dream of your bed at home or salivate over a home-cooked meal, but can actually have all of these things! It’s a wonderful feeling to go back to a place while knowing that, for at least a few days, your life can be stress-free. During these breaks, you only have a short period of time at home, so it’s important to spend it wisely. There are so many different ways to make the best of your time at home, and here are some ways to do it.
My first plan of the break is to spend as much time with my family as possible. College makes it difficult to stay in touch all the time with your parents and siblings, so these few days are a great time to catch up. I plan on telling my family everything that I have been doing at college (maybe leaving out a few minor details) so that they too can experience my everyday life. It is also exciting to get to hear about what they have been doing while you have been gone. Having this time to talk about everything is a great bonding experience and can make your families bond even tighter than they were before you went to school. So make sure to go out for a family dinner or prepare a home-cooked meal together and get to talking!
Another great way to spend your break is to visit your friends at their different colleges. With school being so overwhelming, it can sometimes be hard to find a weekend that allows you to visit your friends. But with college breaks, you do not have to worry about missing schoolwork or class, you get to just have a great time with friends. It is an amazing experience to find out how your friends have been living for the past few weeks. Also, what can be better than going out and spending time with your best friends from home? It will be an amazing reunion with many laughs and smiles.
In college, it never seems possible to get enough sleep. The average student is either a walking zombie or hyped up on caffeine. But coming home allows for us to finally catch up on the sleep that we don’t get at school. These days at home are times to relax and stay in your own bed all day long. There is no stress to get your work done or to stay out all night long. All that is required of you is comfy clothes and the ability to lay horizontally.
Finally, while not the most fun thing to do on break, being home is a great way to get ahead on the work you will have when you get back to school. There are no distractions from getting your work done at home, and you can get it done in a comfortable environment. This will also allow you to be a lot less stressed when you get back to school, because everything was done at home.
Overall, being home is a great thing. It’s a time where you can bond with your family and friends, rest up, or get some work done. There is not a lot of time we college students get to spend at home when school is in session, so cherish all that is offered to you at home. I hope everyone has great breaks!
