Election Year: What to do? What to do?
John Cole Cartoons

This new year has a host of new things to offer in politics. Why don't we take a look, shall we?

The new year started off great with President Obama giving his State of the Union Address on January 12th. His address had good and bad reviews on it, mainly speaking of the contents of his address. Although comments on his address were mixed, President Obama has changed much of what his predecessor had already had in place. The main contents of his address were the Economy, the War on Terror, and also Social Justice Change. With his final address, President Obama leaves an amazing legacy for the United States of America, and the world. With asking four questions that we need to answer as a nation, he ended his address giving examples of hope for the nation from the people who live within it.

In more recent events, Fox News hosted the sixth Republican Debate on Thursday with much to be discussed. I must admit, this was an interesting debate! There were some very good points made by the moderators, and also some great responses made back. If you haven't been keeping up with the Republican Candidates, there has been a few changes since the last debate. We see that Carly Fiorina is not in attendance, and also that a couple of candidates have dropped out of the presidential race. Amongst one of the biggest topics of the debate was the argument of Donald Trump asking was he even "qualified" to run for president since he is a Canadian-American.

After the accusation from Presidential Candidate Donald Trump, we see Ted Cruz strike back with enlightening information. He tells Trump that although he was born in Canada his mother is a United States citizen, and was given citizen rights at birth. Although this is true, Trump explained that he has lawyers looking into this matter to find out the absolute truth about everything. Aside from the usual bickering, there were great points made Marco Rubio, and Ben Carson! This debate was by far my favorite one of them all.

On the Democrat side it seems that the tides have turned on Hillary Clinton. Bernie Sanders has ultimately made a huge comeback in recent polls. Clinton is only leading Sanders by two points! This has created a major comeback for Bernie when Hillary was seemingly leading the polls out of all three Democratic Candidates. Only time will tell who out of the two will be leading the polls, and most importantly becoming the Democratic Nominee for the Presidential Election. The main question is: Are you feeling the Bern?

With all of this going on, this is the year to definitely stay up to date on the the Presidential Candidates platforms, moves, and most importantly ideas. There has been a lot of economic progress in the past eight years, but with this progress comes a lot more issues. We see that the national economy has made great strides over the course of eight years, but now many more problems have risen. From social justice issues to at home terrorism, we see that things can change for the better and also for the worst.

So now with all of these facts and figures laid out, my articles heading now comes into play: What to do? I believe that our generation is very powerful in making monumental changes in our state, country, and the world. I believe that as millennials, we can do ANYTHING that we put our minds to. This election is super important, not only because it's a vote for who becomes the leader of the free world, but ultimately between Trump, Clinton, and Sanders history will be made. We can either elect a man who has no background in politics, the first female president and first husband of the country, or a man who is an ideological purist who has not shown executive leadership in his career. It's not only up to us, but the entire nation as a whole to elect a fitting president for our country, and only if we all do it together. One final thought for the people who are keep up with Politics this season.

Stay in the loop, and make sure you fact check before you post!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
