What To Do If You Are Bored

Another absolutely useless guideline.

What To Do If You Are Bored

You know, sometimes people feel a desperate need for some kind of guidelines. I was thinking about providing you with a couple today. They're kind of obvious, but I hope you'll like them.

1. Read a book.

There is nothing better than a good book. Especially the one you don't need to read because of the class, but just want to read for fun. I bought some books here being in the United States and can’t wait to read them. Unfortunately, I will be able to do it only in a week, when I will be back in Russia.

P.S. By the way, wish me a safe trip home;)

2. Watch a movie / cartoon / TV series.

A good way to spend some time before going to sleep or even to wake up. Honestly, I, for example, have never watched Family Guy before. Guess what I am watching almost every free hour of my life now. I find it kind of stupid but at the same time pretty funny. This is exactly what I need sometimes – some silly TV series for relaxing. Or movies. My friend some time ago showed me Trainspotting. Guess who is waiting for the second part with her now.

3. Ask your friends what they are up to.

They will always find something to distract you from boringness, right? My friends always have a bunch of ideas for what to do. Party? Yes. Movie night? Of course. Both at the same time? Perfect. I mean, any idea will be amazing. Because you are bored and you need anything. At least something. So even if your friends want to sit in the library reading some books, you can join and keep being bored but with them.

4. Shopping.

Christmas is coming! Do you have presents already? Create a list, plan your budget and go! I’ve spent more than $100 this weekend just on buying presents for my family and friends. And for myself, of course. Mostly, for myself, honestly.

5. Cooking.

Food is always a good idea, agree? Trust me, it’s true. You will not be bored because, firstly, you will cook, secondly, you will eat. Also, it would be great to combine this point and the third one. Cooking with friends or for friends is even better than cooking and eating all alone.

6. Walking.

I know, it’s cold outside, I know! But if you are ready for this, if you are wearing a warm jacket, warm scarf, gloves and a hat, you will be fine. Fresh air is always a good idea. It helps to clear your mind and calm you down. For me, it works all the time.

And the last but not the least…

7. Wait.. Isn't it finals week? Seriously?! You have five deadlines on Thursday and you are bored? Dude, get your priorities straight!

No more procrastination tips for you. Get up and go to work. Essays, exams, quizzes - it's much more important than anything now. You are not in Russia, where all exams for students will be only in January.

So get up and go, I believe in you! Maybe, even in myself, but I'm still not sure about this...

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
