It's been time.
I want nothing more than to see all generations respect each other.
to see my fellow class mates respect themselves.
to see others taking responsibility for their own lives.
to see everyone work on themselves, to become more respectful human beings.
Before you continue reading, just know that this article is all about owning and taking on individual responsibility. This article is not about the election. You're welcome.
With that being said, I feel that its crucial to start investing in more knowledge and higher learning. And this doesn't have to mean going to college, because obviously college is not feasible for everyone, and that's a whole other discussion.
Furthermore, you can still be educated and aware of multiple points of view even without a degree. If you are passionate enough about knowledge and bettering yourself, you will do your research at a library or even at home, or you will do what it takes to be able to take a class here and there. I am currently burying myself in some debt, because I care about being well rounded and educated.
The point is to learn, become aware, and to erase narrow mindedness. You can still be a vital member to society through your mind alone. I don't care what anyone says, a degree does not define or measure your worthiness. It is not what grants you your right to an opinion, although it does help everyone understand all walks of life and not just their own.
It's also time to find a cause you will stand strong for, and show your passion for it without apology. All the energy we put into arguing things that divide us, can be equally put into causes that will make our country a better place. We can advocate for each other, we can work towards helping our environment, we can literally pick any issue and work on solving problems together, even if some are against you. If everyone, including myself, took ten percent of their anger and used it towards being somewhat of a humanitarian, and many people already are doing so, this world would be a much more beautiful place than it is now.
I believe we can all contribute to making this world an exceptional place to live in. We're never all going to see eye to eye, but that doesn't mean we are doomed. We need everyone in this world to feel self worth, and to take pride in being a contributing member of society. By that I simply mean being an educated individual who does for themselves and doesn't expect handouts. Just be kind, respectful, and take charge of your life because – YOU and ONLY YOU – define who you are.
We need those who are willing to take back the control of their own situations, to advocate for whatever they choose, and to let their voice be heard when it is needed. We are all important, and the higher our level of respect is for ourselves and others, the better we will do for all mankind.
