This Is What Sisters Are For
The Preppy All American

If you have a sister or are a sister, you know just how important the role is. There are many things a sister contributes and shares; a healthy bond with a sister is unbreakable. While there are ups and downs with sisters just like in any other relationship, there are also countless moments of excitement and joy that you wouldn’t trade for the world. And that is what sisters are for.

Sisters are there to listen when you need someone to lend their ear, but will also give you advice to go along with each of your problems. Sometimes the advice they give may not be exactly what you want to hear, yet many times getting an outside perspective, especially from a sister, is just what you need.

If you’re having a bad day, you can always count on a sister to lift your spirits. She will listen to your troubles and be overly sympathetic, but she won’t let you stay that way for very long. She will crack a joke, try her best to embarrass you, and have you laughing within minutes. A sister will make you forget your troubles and help you focus on the pleasures of life. And that is what sisters are for.

When you’re looking for someone to confide in, a sister is most likely your best option. A sister is someone you can tell your deepest, darkest secrets to and she will love you just the same, maybe even more, for trusting her with something so special. Sisters really are some of the best secret keepers, and take that job very seriously.

A sister is one of the greatest people to go on adventures with. Whether it is across town or across the country, a sister is a good choice for a traveling companion. You will always have someone to talk to, roll down the windows and jam to loud music with, and giggle at the crazy families on the road traveling in the same direction. She will keep you entertained with funny stories and make your brain feel like it’s going to explode with all of her questions. And that is what sisters are for.

When you have your eye on the cutie from math class, a sister should be one of the first people you tell. And if she isn’t, she will surely be one of the first to find out. Of course she will ask all kinds of lighthearted questions like their interests and hobbies, what kind of fashion sense they have, and their most attractive quality. But then she will ask more meaningful questions in an attempt to decide if this person really deserves your attention. She knows the kind of person you are looking for and will be sure that you stay true to your standards.

Having a sister is one of the greatest treasures, one you shouldn’t take for granted. There are so many wonderful things that flow from a relationship with a sister. They will laugh with you, cry with you, make fun of you, embarrass you, annoy you, and love you. And that is what sisters are for.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
