With summer reaching its tragic end, we are all preparing to head back to school. However, some of you are heading off to your very first year of college. You’re probably in a frenzy trying to figure out what you need to pack and what you have left to buy so that you’re prepared for the upcoming year. I myself was in your exact same position last year and I learned a lot from that. You wouldn’t believe how much extra things I brought along with me and how many things I actually forgot as well. Therefore, I am here to do you a favor and give you some tips on packing for your freshman year of college/university.

1. You do not need that many T-shirts.

Yes, I understand how comfortable they are that you can wear them to bed and lounge around in. Maybe you even wear them to classes. You do not need as many as you’re planning on brining. They hand out so many shirts throughout the first year that you may actually run out of shirt space.

2. You do not need that many clothes in general.

Although, it may seem like a huge thing not going in with that many clothes but the truth is that you will not end up wearing most of them. You will not have enough space for many of them either. You actually share clothes a lot because people cannot bring a copious amount with them.

3. Bring an extra set of sheets.

In college you may get sick or even spill something on your bed and not have enough time or energy really to wash your sheets. It’s really helpful to have a backup set just incase. It saved me a bunch the first two semesters.

4. Bring storage containers that will fit under your bed.

It is more likely than not that you will have a roommate the first year. Realize that dorms really aren’t that big, especially freshman dorms. Unless you want a crowded room that it disorganized, The storage containers will allow you to have space in your room because they will be easy to hide under your bed.

5. Pack a lot of undergarments.

You can re wear pants or shirts occasionally if you run out of laundry money or don’t have time to do laundry but it’s hella gross and unacceptable to re-wear underwear and socks. Pack extra so that you won’t have to worry about running out in the middle of a really busy week.

6. You do not need that many notebooks.

Although you do need some notebooks to write in if you retain information better by hand writing it, computers are needed anyway and many students bring their computer for notes because it’s less to carry around. Most assignments are papers are done online anyway.

7. Bring some games or cards.

It can get really boring in the dorm when it is down pouring outside and there’s not much to do. Of course, you can spend some of this time studying but you do need to give yourself a break so why not bring something simple to have fun with.

8. Bring snacks to keep in your room.

Absolutely bring your own snacks to keep on hand in your room. Sometimes you won’t have time to go to the cafeteria because of your schedule. Also, you may get hungry at weird times at night and they will be lifesavers.

There’s plenty of other things that you need to bring with you but they’re kind of self-explanatory and simple. These were just somethings that I didn’t really know and many others don’t until they learn their freshman year. Hopefully this will lighten your load on move in day, and help you have the correct materials for you to move into your dorm. Happy packing freshman!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
