Freshman year of college is the start of a great experience throughout college. In some cases, it is the first time you are away from home, family and friends. Once you move off campus, however, it is a whole different story. You have to make extra effort just to get to school as opposed to when you just lived in a residence hall on campus. There are other big changes from living on campus to moving off campus:
Dining Halls vs. Cooking
It goes from eating all you can eat at the dining halls or just grabbing a quick bite to making meals for yourself (and that's if you already know how to cook!).
Quickly going to class vs. waking up early just to get on campus
On campus you can wake up at 7:40 for an 8 a.m. class. Off-campus, however, you have to give yourself enough time to wake up and make your way to campus.
Parking garages vs. taking the tram
I miss the convince of having your car available on campus when you need to make a quick get-away. Off campus, you have to rely on the transportation system which can be a BONUS because you save a lot of money on gas.
The art of forgetfulness
If you forget something while on campus you can quickly run back to your residence hall. If you forget something and you live off campus it might as well be a lost cause for the day.
On-campus neighbors vs. apartment complex neighbors
Oh how I missed the days when I can walk outside of my room and see a whole bunch of people just hanging out and you were never really bored. When you move off campus, you will be lucky if you even see your neighbors. So if you need an emergency cup of milk, you might just need to go to the grocery store yourself.
Sharing rooms vs. having your own room
Now this is a tricky one. Yes, having your own room and bathroom is amazing because hello, it's privacy. I do have to admit though, sharing a room with a roommate can be fun, especially if you are really great friends with the person.
