What Does San Diego Have In Store For You?

Oh, San Diego! How great of a city you are! From your hill sides to your beaches, there is no city that can compare. The San Diego Public Library is an awesome place to visit. It has nine floors of wonder and you can view the Coronado Bridge from the top floor. There is also the children’s library that contains images of the late Dr. Seuss’ famous works.

Downtown is where the city is most diverse. At the heart of the city lies The Gaslamp Quarter where you can quench any alcoholic thirst. If you’re still thirsty in this city, head over to Pacific Beach! They have bars by the bushel over there. Let us not forget about Ocean Beach’s yearly marshmallow fight! Who wouldn’t want to be a part of that? Once you are done with that, head over to Petco Park or Qualcomm Stadium to catch the game. Did I mention that you can get to all these places using the Trolley? If you are ever here during the month of July, come out to Comic-Con and geek out!

Here in San Diego there is always something for everyone. If you do not want to drink or go to beach, head over the Smithsonian of the West (Balboa Park) and visit a museum. It while you are there, you can visit one of the most famous zoos in the country, the San Diego Zoo. Do you like to shop? There are loads of malls throughout the city (too many actually, if you ask me).

A little hidden gem is the film schedule. Every few months or so a schedule is released detailing films being shown in the city’s landmark theaters over several months. There are three landmark theaters with my personal favorite being in Hillcrest.

Artisan shops are abundant here in under the sun, and they make a variety of things, from chocolate to furniture and clothes. If you are a tourist, there are many beautiful historical hotels for you to stay at.

But what truly makes San Diego unique is the people. I am not a native San Diegan, but I have become an adoptive one. I have lived here for many years and I am always surprised to see such compassion and kindness for fellow human beings. Initially, I was not the most excited about living here. But San Diego has grown on me. Random strangers tell me to have a good morning with a bright smile on their face. What they do can turn any bad day around. San Diego is a military hub and the citizens know that. We provide support to those military families and thank them for their sacrifice. San Diego is a great place. I could not think of all the many good things to write on here. So, come see for yourself.

Parks and Recreation excitedly gathered around a laptop at a table in an office setting.

The library. Club lib. The place every college student goes when they want to try and be a productive member of society. Who better to explain your experience than Parks and Rec?

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
