As many of you might have heard or seen on social media, Music Midtown has come and gone. Music Midtown is an Atlanta music festival that starts on Friday night and goes all day Saturday. And let me just tell you: it rocks.     

I wouldn't call myself a professional music-festival-goer, but I have been around the block a few times. Well, twice. My first festival experience was two years ago, when I went to Lollapalooza in Chicago. To sum that experience up, I would definitely go with the phrase, “best time of my life.” It was where I discovered my love for Matt and Kim, reached "Such Great Heights" with The Postal Service, and fan-girled over my long-time obsession The Killers.      

Music Midtown was an amazing time, but nothing (besides Coachella, potentially) could compare to 'Lolla. I mean, it's Chicago. Need I say more? Now, don’t get me wrong, Music Midtown was still totally awesome! There’s just something about a full, three-day music festival in one of the best cities in the country. But hey, everyone’s entitled to their own opinion. 

Those of you who are unfamiliar with music festivals might be wondering what the big deal is. Let me break it down.

The atmosphere. You feel like you’ve stepped out of reality into some magical, musical world. Everywhere you look there is something (or someone) unique and there is music the entire time! 

The people. Everyone at these festival really loves music and they tend to really love everyone around them, too. Sure, there is a lot of pushing and shoving, but we’re all there for the same thing and are usually down to make some friends while we check out a new band or lose our minds at the sight of our favorite artists.     

The price. Some of you might be calling me crazy with this one, but when you think about it, you really get your bang for your buck. How often can you pay less than $200 to see Lana del Rey and Eminem in one night? It's EMINEM. The answer to that question is never.     

The music. This one’s kind of obvious. It’s so cool that you can just be walking around, grabbing a bite to eat, and hear really amazing bands playing in the background. The sound of Run DMC a few stages away can make even the dreadful bathroom lines more enjoyable.     

The experience. You check the lineup to make sure there are at least a few names you know, but part of all the fun is discovering new artists you have never heard before. Especially during the longer festivals, you tend to have free time in between your favorite bands. Take advantage of this time! Some of my current favorites are artists that I just happened to stumble upon, heard one song, and fell in love.     

To sum it all up, music festivals are a once in a lifetime, bucket-list type event. Even if you attend the same ones over again, you’ll never have the same exact experience as you did the first time, or the time after that. For those of you who have never been to a music festival, I encourage you to check one out. I promise, you won’t regret it (although your wallet might after discovering the insanely overpriced pizza, but hey, it’s all part of the experience).
