With "Peter Pan" being one of my favorite Disney movies, I don’t intend on growing up any time soon. In my opinion, Peter is a symbol of youth, innocence, and joy which is free from the burdens of adult love, empathy for others, or regrets. I like to think that the reason Peter can’t leave Neverland is because he’s the soul reason it exists. He knows everyone, knows all the different types of languages, and acts like he’s the Neverland king. Whereas Wendy is a symbol of maturity, and adulthood. There are many different adaptations of Peter Pan, but Disney’s is fun and intriguing.
Watching "Peter Pan" you think to yourself, “do I really want to grow up?” First of all, no one wants to grow up. It just happens. Everyday I wish I can flee to Neverland and hang out with the Lost Boys and go on adventures with Peter, or even run away from the Tick-Tock-Croc. Sure sounds a lot more appealing than going to college, racking up debt, paying bills, and filing taxes, right? I thought so. I think that’s why I loved working at Walt Disney World. Some people call it the “Disney bubble”, basically meaning nothing seems real. You lose track of time. You’re in your own little world. Even just taking a trip to a Disney park you feel like you’re in a totally different dimension.
At 22-years-old, my love for Disney just grows stronger. Everyone needs a little magic in their lives. Obviously given the circumstances of why I love Walt Disney World, Disneyland will always be my home. I spent a lot of my childhood there, and some of my adulthood too. What I love about visiting Disneyland is it’s right in the middle of Orange County, yet it doesn’t feel like it. You don’t hear any of the city noises, you don’t see anything of the city. You’re in an alternate universe; a universe where nothing can go wrong. You’re surrounded by your favorite characters, favorite villains, favorite attractions, and favorite people (assuming you’re there with family or friends you like). Almost nothing can go wrong. Whenever I meet some of my favorite characters, I melt into a puddle of pixie dust. Tigger is definitely one of my favorite characters to do meet and greets with. There’s never a dull moment when Tigger and I are together. Even when I see him, I turn into five-year-old Savannah and cry and get giddy and somewhat shy/nervous when it’s my turn to meet him. That’s exactly why I love Disney. I go from 22 years old to 5 in a matter of seconds. No one is an adult at a Disney Park.
Walt made Disneyland for his children. He wanted a safe and clean place for his children to play in, and many others. Walt built it on a dream that hardly anyone else believed in. From Just Disney, they write:
“Fantasyland was created with the goal to ‘make dreams come true’ from the lyrics of ‘When You Wish Upon a Star.’ Walt said: ‘What youngster...has not dreamed of flying with Peter Pan over moonlit London, or tumbling into Alice’s nonsensical Wonderland? In Fantasyland, these classic stories of everyone’s youth have become realities for youngsters-of all ages-to participate in.’”
Even Walt doesn't believe in growing up. If Walt doesn't, then I don't.
