What is Your Perfect Spring Break Destination?

1

With the spring break season coming up, I’m sure you’ve heard your fair share of conversations involving the popular topic.

If you and your friends are like mine, you’ve been planning your trip since before Christmas break. While most of you may be heading off to the beach once March comes, some choose other locations for their spring break destination.

Last year, my friends and I decided to skip the beach scene and go to the happiest place on earth instead. Yes, you guessed it, Disney World. I’ve grown up loving everything Disney, so when the opportunity came up to go to Orlando, I was all for it. Once spring break was here, four of my best friends and I headed off to Orlando for the week. Let me tell you, Disney World is for people of any age. I honestly probably enjoyed it more when I was 18 than when I was 8. There are so many things to do at each park for those of any age, and I loved every second of it. It just so happens that my birthday always falls during the time of spring break, so being able to spend my birthday at Disney World was the absolute greatest. On days that we didn’t go to Disney World, we hung out by the pool, explored Orlando and even took a trip to Universal Studios (including the Wizarding World of Harry Potter) on our last day of the trip.

Going to Disney World was honestly the best spring break trip that I could have asked for. I mean Florida, roller coasters, Mickey Mouse shaped food and getting to bring out my inner child every day. What more could you ask for?

Well maybe Disney World isn’t on the top of your list of places to spend your spring break? How about taking a ski trip with some of your closest friends. While it may be starting to warm up in Oklahoma once spring break comes, locations such as Colorado, New Mexico and Utah still have the perfect skiing weather. Grab your snow gear and head up into the mountains for a fun week of snow and skiing. You can rent your skis once you arrive, allowing more room in your suitcase for all of the jackets and boots you’re going to need to stay warm. Grab some hot chocolate and sit by a warm fire at the end of the day, and you have another great option for a spring break trip!

Want to get away from the college scene during your spring break? Lot’s of colleges have the same spring break. You could spend your break with friends from home rather than your OU friends for a refreshing change. Pick out a fun location, such as New York, California or maybe somewhere tropical such a the Bahamas or Mexico and start your planning! It’s always fun getting to spend time with the friends you grew up with, making spring break the perfect time to do so.

Are you part of a church group or organization that takes part in volunteering regularly? Lot’s of church groups take mission trips during the week of spring break to various countries to help out in struggling communities. This is a great time to take part in helping others while making unforgettable memories.

Maybe you’ve decided to just go home for your week off. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. It’s always such a treat to go home and be pampered by your mom, and of course, we all love our free meals and laundry service.

If you’re upset about having to go home for a week, change that attitude of yours and make your week at home what I like to call a “staycation.” According to Wikipedia, a staycation is a period in which an individual or a family stays home and participates in leisure activities within driving distance, sleeping in their own beds at night. No matter where you’re from, there has to be somewhere exciting that you can drive to in order to make the most of your time at home. I’ve already made a long list of things I could do in Dallas if I were to choose home over a vacation one year. Don’t mope around all week while you’re at home. Get some much needed rest and enjoy your time off of school, because once you return back to school, the chaos will start right back up again.

For the majority of students who choose to go to the beach for spring break, I know the stories and memories will always be unforgettable. Whatever you choose to do for your spring break, I hope that it’s filled with lots of fun, pictures, relaxation and memories. Happy vacationing!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
