What Parents Say V.S What They Mean

Parents rock (hi mom and dad!). I especially love the hilarious things they say, even though they are very serious when they say it.

I am sure many of you can relate to the classic ‘parent’ lines I am about to share. Even better, you can probably think of a few occasions to back them up. If you went home for the holidays after being away, you might have realized them even more now more than ever.

Now, for the most part, we believe everything our parents say, but when these phrases are thrown our way, we can usually detect their alternate meaning almost immediately.

Here are the top 5 things parents say vs what they actually mean.

1. "Maybe."

What they mean: A big old "No."

2. "I will be there soon."

What they mean: "I have not left [work, home, etc.] yet."

3. "Dinner is ready."

What they mean: "Come help me get everything on the table AND THEN you can eat."

4. "We’re going to visit [insert relative or family friend here] but we won’t stay long."

What they mean: "Bring a sleeping bag because we’ll be camping out there."

5. "I’m stopping at the store for a couple of things."

What they mean: "I am buying all of Costco so be ready to help me unload the car when I get home."

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
