As most of us know, “Netflix and chill” means you should come hang out and watch Netflix, which will actually turn into other things. Well, I know when I’m invited to watch Netflix, I want to watch Netflix and eat popcorn and other snacks. To me, this is not an invitation to see if you can get what you want. Not at all! Now you are all asking me if I think this is what everyone means when they say this. No, absolutely not. This is not an article of how you go over to “watch” Netflix and it turns into something completely different. If that is what you want to do with it, so be it. No judgement here.

Let’s take a moment and figure out what “Netflix and chill” actually means, the literal meaning of it. Netflix is a website or app that allows you to watch movies and television shows whenever you want and you could watch it as many times as you would like. Chill is where you hang out, most of the time as friends. Remember when you were a kid and sometimes you would ask your friends if they wanted to hang out or chill? Well, I believe that chill is still in the same context, even in this title. So when the title is put together, it actually means, where you invite friends over to watch movies and television shows online.

“How did it come to be the other meaning then?” This is probably your next question for me to answer. I don’t know. People come up with crazy things and this, by far, is one. Who knows where that other context originated from. Maybe some people had the mutual idea of it being more. Maybe a lot of people had that idea. No one can be sure. All I know is that I just want to eat snacks and enjoy a good time with my friends while we watch movies. How about you guys? I would love to hear your opinions!
