The lessons that you learn in life are valuable. They come from many different places and people. One of the first jobs that I ever had was at my local town pool, I was in high school and decided that it was time to get myself a job for summer to save up some money. I remember being so nervous going to the meeting before the opening of the pool that summer. I left the meeting feeling relieved that it was over but also anxious for what the summer would hold. My first day on the job was a complete blur, I had absolutely no idea what in the world I was doing. I was lost. Eventually, I found my way and was able to do a decent job. Working at the pool taught me responsibility. This was one of the first things that they talked about during each and every pre season meeting, basically we all had to make sure that we got to work on time, clocked in on time and would personally call up the office if there was any issue with coming to work that day. I quickly learned how to give myself time to get to work on time, to talk to customers nicely, and to answer their questions or redirect the person to someone who knew the answer. The importance of being nice to people gets you a long way. I made a point of being nice to each and every one of the people on maintenance staff because you never knew when you might need them. They were more likely to come and help you if you actually took the time to be nice to them. It also paid to be nice to the lifeguards for the very same reason. I also went into work with a readiness to do whatever was asked of me, I quickly realized that I was expected to do various tasks throughout the day and it helped to come in ready and eager to work. I made sure to be nice to my bosses as well. I became dependable and reliable at work. The skills that I have learned while I worked at the pool have stuck with me. I have grown into a more mature person who can handle herself with grace. I can easily converse with coworkers and fellow patrons and parents in a more efficient and professional manner. I use the skills that I learned at my current job. They have really come in handy. It is how I have gotten a job. I am so incredibly grateful for all of the lessons that the pool has given me. Looking back, I am glad that I applied for the job and decided to work there for the past seven summers. I will miss it greatly but my time there will always hold a special place in my heart.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
