What Michelle Obama's Last Speech Meant To Me

As I sat, watching Michelle Obama's last speech as the First Lady. I began to reflect on these past 8 years and how Michelle Obama has inspired many Americans, including myself. She has always shown such grace and even with all the adversities her family has faced, her sense of humor still shines through. To me, her last speech was one to remember.

She focused on education and highlighted the achievements we have made. These achievements include: college signing day is a national day now, not just for athletes, people going to college is at an all time high and more people are graduating from high school. It's now easier to get financial aid and scholarships. The accomplishments go on and on, each standing out more than the last.

To me, this speech meant everything. It reminded me of all that Michelle Obama had accomplished. She truly cares about this country and that means so much. She's done so much for America and has really shined as the First Lady. She has made children a priority, because they are the future.

Michelle Obama stated in her speech, "To the young people: This country belongs to you."

She continued to talk about how her husband and her had started out very poor, but with hard work and a very good education, anything is possible. Her message was clear. Everyone deserves an education and that education can make a difference to not only yourself, but the people around you. This is a message that we should be reminded of, every single day. It's a message that not everyone hears.

She highlighted that our right in America is something that is earned, it's not something that is just given. She wants young people in America to get the best education that they can possibly get. And throughout all the hatred and division that her family has faced in the past 8 years, Michelle Obama still believes in hope.

As a college student, this message was what I needed. It was a reminder that college is a privilege. It is a privilege that will not only better me, but America itself. This speech was a reminder that I am capable of anything. I can be whoever I want to be and do whatever I want to do. I can pursue the career I want and live my dreams.

College is a difficult time period due to confusion and a lot of work that needs to be done. Michelle Obama reminded me through the message that I need to keep my hope. If I have that hope that something good is about to happen then I will be unstoppable. With this hope, I will be able to finish college and honor the education I am getting. This education that I get the privilege of earning is something that I need to take pride in. It's something that I need to start looking at as a gift and not something that was handed to me.

You can be who you want to be in America and with everything that has happened, we tend to forget how great America is. We have rights and freedoms that other countries don't have. We have the opportunity to be whoever we want to be. We are able to feel empowered and be inspired and have hope.

Don't let your adversities bring you down, instead use them to help you succeed in life. Don't let anyone put limitations on you. That is what I got from the speech. I think we are all thankful for what Michelle Obama has done for us. She is truly a role model and I am thankful that I got to witness Obama's presidency and the role that the First Lady played in it.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
