When you think about it, it is hard to classify what makes a school great besides its academics. Ivy league schools are above the rest academically but they aren't the greatest schools to go to for all of your needs and wants as a college student. The University of Florida is better than other schools for multiple reasons besides academics. Its hard to envision myself anywhere else but here. The college town itself is energizing, it is very easy to get involved in many different campus activities and clubs, and the other students here make it awesome. What more could you want?
Its not any easy place to describe if you have never been here before. Wherever you go, there is something going on. When I walk out of my dorm everyday, I know I'm going to meet someone new, have a new experience or do something fun. For example, you want to do something fun but you don't know what. You are walking around campus and you pass through Turlington and Plaza of the Americas. Tons of people are there promoting different things and talking to various people. There is no way there is not an opportunity sitting right in front of you at every given moment. You just have to notice it.
With the amount of students at UF, interesting campus activities are going on all the time, and getting involved is the easiest way to enjoy yourself and discover new things. There are over 1,000 clubs on campus meeting multiple times a week. You may not identify with most of them but there is something interesting on campus for everyone. The opportunities available are almost overwhelming. Whenever you go to a club meeting, such as the marketing association or the creative writing club, you can meet new people, get involved with the things that the club is doing, gauge your interests and network. There are tons of clubs for all of these things. There is even a club here for being a girl.
Meeting new students at these clubs or just being around campus is an easy way to get caught up in the spirit of being a gator. I wake up every morning excited for what the day has to hold. Every student here is willing to help you do the things that you want and excel at them at the same time. There are leaders all over campus in student government, heads of organizations, and just regular students trying to make this campus better every single day. We are on the verge of being a top ten public university. The students have helped make that happen not just the faculty. The University itself has been moving closer to being one of the best public universities in the country every year. One day in the near future, the degree you're getting now will be much more valuable.
The academics play a big part in making UF great, but we all already know that the curriculum is top of the line. The students who are succeeding as campus leaders are making a difference. They are the ones who are energizing this campus. You can get involved whenever you want and start on that path towards being a leader on campus or just a student who is having a great time. The endless opportunities available make UF awesome. Go out meet new people, enjoy yourself and do new things that you never thought you would before.
