Disney has always been associated with family. Practically every other year, my extended family and I would go to Disney together. It was always a time to learn about my cousins that I only saw on Christmas Eve or Easter. Now, growing older, we don’t have this luxury anymore. Disney has now become a shared experience between my immediate family.
There are so many factors that go into having a special Disney vacation. From Mickey Mouse waffles to exciting rides and boisterous parades, Disney has so much to offer to have a great trip. However, it is not just these exclusive experiences that makes Disney so sentimental.
When I think of Disney, I think of waiting on a 45 minutes wait line for Star Tours. John William’s beautiful score is playing softly in the background while my Mom spills on some family gossip. Disney is staying in the park until midnight with my brother, complaining about how much my feet hurt, but still having an amazing time anyway. It’s only glancing at the fireworks as my brother and I sprint to Space Mountain because it only has a five minute wait. Disney is shamelessly eating ice cream at 10:30 p.m. because damn, it’s hot out.
Disney can make up as many rides as it wants or expands its parks all across the Floridian swamps but the truth is, it’s not about the rides or fireworks. It’s about who I am with. There is a reason why my family can wait on a 90-minute wait together. It is because we actually enjoy each other’s company. That’s what Disney is to. It is how much I truly love my family and that I am experiencing the happiest place on Earth with them.
