Long-term relationships always get the stereotype of boring, but they’re FAR from that. By being in a long-term relationship, you actually gain benefits from it and develop an amazing bond with another person. So, screw the stereotypes, here are some of the AMAZING things that happen in a long-term relationship.
1. Bye-bye honeymoon phase?
No, the honeymoon phase doesn’t fully leave. You still are super happy to see them and you’re still getting butterflies, but by now you’re probably feeling like it’s gotten boring because the initial lust has worn off. This isn’t true because with the right person, after the lust part, love blossoms.
2. What’s makeup? And fancy clothes? Nah.
The best part of being in a long-term relationship is you can actually be yourself. Now I know us ladies don’t do makeup specifically for boys, but we do like to look nice for them. By now, in a long-term relationship, you’ve lost the will to get 1000% done up every single time you see him. You feel comfortable wearing sweats and a t-shirt and knowing he’ll still think you’re the most beautiful girl in the world.
3. I woke up like this and I don’t care.
Flawless. You still woke up flawless with your bedhead and smeared makeup you forgot to take off the night before (or no makeup at all if you’re one of those lucky people who remembers to always take it off). You wake up no longer caring about how you look, or morning breath (still gross though). You wake up happy to be in their arms.
4. You can do your own things while still being together.
You no longer are up each other's butts constantly, you can now comfortably sit in the same room, silent, doing different things happy to just be with them. It’s like alone time, but not. My boyfriend will be on Xbox while I’m Netflixin’ and chillin’ by myself, but we still are spending time together and hanging out. You don’t have to lose the cuddles and movie nights, you just don’t do them ALL the time anymore.
5. You’ve been adopted.
Your boyfriend's family has adopted you as one of their own and your family has adopted him. You feel comfortable at family parties, you and his sister are best friends, and you feel like you have another family. This honestly is my favorite part of my long-term relationship. You also split the holidays with them because you now have two family parties to attend. It’s a great feeling having two families.
