It’s crazy to think that in just two weeks I will be considered a junior and have only two years left at this incredible university. With that realization comes reflection of the great times I’ve had with friends and the not so great experiences that have molded me into the person I am right at this very moment. Tears of heartbreak, joy and stress have made me tougher and ready to take on the next two years with good friends and a major that I love.
The past two years taught me that the beginning is not always easy. I started my freshman year with no idea what to expect and ended my first day of classes crying on my dorm room floor. I hated college for the first few months and went home nearly every single weekend until I realized that college is about taking risks in order to find out what truly makes you happy. Eventually I met some great people on my floor and started getting more involved on campus.
The past two years taught me how important family really is. I only live 45 minutes away from home, but sometimes it feels like four hours. There are times when I really need to hear my mom’s laugh and my dad say he is proud of me. College made me realize how lucky I am to have such wonderful and encouraging people to go home to whenever I need a break.
The past two years taught me what it feels like to hurt. When I laid in my bed crying over a stupid guy, college taught me who my friends are and that although it might feel like the end of the world at the time, there is so much more to look forward to.
The past two years taught me more about my relationship with God. I learned to appreciate His plans for my life and let Him work endlessly with my heart. He led to me to a rewarding major that will allow me to teach and influence people like me every single day.
The past two years taught me that learning happens beyond the classroom. Every day I strive to be a better friend, teacher and disciple of Christ. I’m thankful for the past and beyond ready for my future.
Here’s to another two years.
