My first semester of college has come to an end, and what a whirl wind it was. There were many highs, and lows. Many struggles, battles, and room for growth, but I wouldn't change a thing. I found sisters in Alpha Delta Pi, who are so awesome, and who shared some points that they learned in their first semester of college.
I learned how to get dressed faster than I ever have.
When you have a class at 8:00 am and you sleep through all of your alarms, waking up at 7:50, its stressful. It has also happened more times then I would like to think. I know for sure that my 8:00 am class wonders why I look the way I do, and the rest of my classes (hopefully) think I look OK, since I go back to my dorm to actually get ready for the day.
It's okay to be lonely.
Lets face it, college is hard. Especially when you go into it not knowing anyone, you will have nights when you sit in your room alone, wondering what your friends from home are doing, and wishing you could be with them. But it is also in the quiet and in the stillness, and brokenness that God will teach you amazing things about yourself. Trust me friend, you are stronger than you think you are, and everything is to help you grow!
We all make mistakes.
We all mess up. Its because were human. Its easy to misjudge situations in a new environment, which you know nothing about. College is nothing like the movies, trust me. It can be an amazing thing, but just remember that it is okay to make mistakes.
Frat boys are dumb.
No matter how cute he is, or how much sweet talk he gives you, he is not looking out for your best interest. He will ask you on a date, and then never text you back. He knows all the right things to say to you to make you swoon, and he has most likely said the same things to 5 other girls in the past two weeks. And no matter how cute he is, he is not good enough for you.
Find a community where you belong.
In college it is really easy to stray away from church, and your faith. To make it easier, you need to find a community to support you, and hold you accountable. Whether that be in a church, a Bible study, or a small group. You cant do it without that, we are meant to be in a community, supporting one another.
"How good and pleasant it is when God's people live together in unity!" Psalm 133:1
Be true to yourself.
In college, you will be around things you have never been around, and you have so much freedom that it is easy to get caught up, and to do things you would not normally do. You have to guard your heart, and your morals. Nobody cares if you don't drink.
I am so excited to see what the next few years of college have to offer me, and I am so thankful to Troy University for giving me a sisterhood, and a place where I can be myself. Here's to the school we love.
